Actress Kristen Wiig, who starred in The Diary of a Teenage Girl and The Martian, both which were released last month, shared some details about the upcoming comedy Masterminds after her first screening in an interview.

Wiig's new movie Masterminds is also starring Zach Galifianakis, Owen Wilson, and Jason Sudeikis - with appearances from Wiig's co-stars from the all female Ghostbusters cast McKinnon and Leslie Jones. The comedy is based on a real heist Loomis Fargo Robbery in North Carolina, the second largest cash theft on U.S. soil in the late 1990s.

Some may ask why base a comedy on a bank robbery, but what many don't realize is that this is also the funniest case in history as it was filled with comical missteps by a group of mostly rookie criminals.

Wiig, the actress of hit movies, including Bridesmaid, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Welcome to Me, The Skeleton Twins, plays the brain of the crime, Kelly Campbell, who persuaded armored car driver David Ghantt to drive off with $17.3 million. Ghantt, played by Galifianakis, was blinded by love.

While the 1997 Loomis Fargo Robbers are all out of prison now, Wiig did not meet Kelley Campbell, but met with David Ghantt, according to Yahoo Movies. She called him the "biggest sweetheart."

As the film is a comedy, the viewers will wonder how much of the comical scenes are actually true.

"It's definitely based on the characters and what happened," Wiig said. "But, of course, it's a comedy and it's Jared. His style is very specific. We wanted to make a good movie."

Masterminds release date is on Oct. 9, 2015.
