When will Android 6.0 Arrive?

It seems that any Android above 5.0 is having the worst time rolling out to even the newest of Android devices.  When it comes to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, it is quite slow when it comes to the HTC One M9 and M8.  This also applies to Samsung devices like the Galaxy S5, S6, Note 4, Note Edge, and other devices waiting for have that Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Update Release Dates for carriers like Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T.

The HTC One M9 and HTC One M8

The good news is that HTC One users can upgrade their handsets with crDroid's latest custom firmware based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, according to the International Business Times.  Keep in mind, this is not an official rollout by any means, and installing a custom ROM is a timely procedure.  The steps are there at the aforementioned IB Times article if you want to give it a try.

According to a separate article from the International Business Times, HTC One M9 users on carriers like Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile should have received the Android 5.1 Lollipop last month, and so far, only Verizon is falling behind.

Venture Capital Post reports that the HTC One M8 will not be getting the Android 5.1.1 update.  In fact, it will skip that update completely and go with Android M, which hasn't been made available as yet.  At this point, it would be difficult to predict an exact release date, but maybe Fall 2015 or even Winter 2016.

Samsung Galaxy S5, S6, Note 4, Note Edge

As for Samsung's mobile devices, the latest news has been that the Galaxy S5, the Galaxy S6, and S6 have the Android 5.1.1 update available for some carriers, according to Neurogadget.  For users of the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge, there is a waiting game that is still happening as Android 5.1.1 is on hold.

So far, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge have their devices available for rollout over the air (OTA) for U.S. Cellular, T-Mobile, and Sprint.  AT&T and Verizon don't have the 5.1.1 Lollipop update for these devices as yet, and there is no official release date.  As for the Galaxy S5, only T-Mobile has launched 5.1.1 for that particular device.

So what's the word on the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note Edge?  Not much, but rumors.  A report by SamMobile recently said that the 5.1.1 update was being tested for the Galaxy Note 4, but this report hasn't been made public and there has been no official date of release.  As for the Note Edge, the 5.1.1 rollout could appear sometime before August ends, but this is also a rumor.

There are also reports that the Android 5.1.1 rollout has been really gaining a lot of steam.  There is expected for the month of August to be a lot of details for those Samsung devices.

For example, you are going to hear a lot of pre-release details.  One of the reasons for Android 5.1.1 is to fix bugs associated with Android 5.1, which was supposed to fix bugs associated with Android 5.0.  It is possible that the reason for the delay with the Samsung series of smartphones has to do with security issues, and Samsung wants them truly patched up before approving the rollout.  There are also reported problems with battery life issues, not to mention connectivity issues.

Another thing to expect is lots of rollouts of 5.1.1 updates.  There should be one for the Galaxy Note Edge, and possibly some movement on T-Mobile's end.  Unfortunately, that rollout isn't going to go to all carriers all at once.  It will probably happen to a few, but I don't want to make any assumptions on which one will have it first.

The big issue when it comes to both HTC and Samsung devices is how Android M is going to come into play.  Android M is expected to be released in September, but the rollout could be as slow as Lollipop was last year, and it still has issues rolling out.
