One of the issues with last year's update of Android Lollipop, also known as Android 5.0 or Android L, was that it was very slow to roll out to even some of the newest Android devices. During the fall and holiday season last year, everyone was quick to ask: "where's my Lollipop Android 5.0 update?" Now it appears that with Android 5.1 getting a slow rollout, everyone is asking for that, specifically for LG smartphones. Here is an Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the LG G4, the LG G3, and the LG G2 along with their respective release dates for carriers like AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile.
The good news is that if you have an LG G4, the newest flagship phone from LG, you should have your Android 5.1 right out of the box. Unfortunately, the earlier versions of these phones were not so lucky to receive the latest upgrade of Android.
As for the LG G3, a recent article on Android Pit that was appropriately titled "LG G3 Android 5.1 Lollipop update: Why are we still waiting?" The article reports that LG has been "tight-lipped" on the status of its Android 5.1 update for the LG G3, and this source reached out to LG as far as any update. This "reaching out" would have been about five days ago, and there has been no word still.
Gotta Be Mobile has reported that LG is more than likely very far in the update stage for the G3, testing the software, and preparing to release and update. As for the LG G2, the Android 5.0 Lollipop update apparently started a lot of small issues as well as multiple bugs that have plagued a lot of users, and it is believed that Android 5.1 should fix most of them.
Based on a report that is a week old, there are no exact details regarding the LG G2 Android 5.1 update from LG or its partnering carriers like Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T.
The issue is when LG will push out the latest version of Android with version 5.1, and there is still no word. Hopefully, they can get it out soon, because a lot of LG G2 and G3 customers are complaining about problems with the Lollipop upgrade. Sprint customers are complaining about having random Wi-Fi disconnection issues, and there are other problems with the battery and slow charging. It is hoped that Android 5.1 will fix those bugs, but G3 and G2 users will have to wait and see.
There should be some international variants of the LG G2 seeing Android 5.1 or even 5.1.1 sometime in June or July, and then US carriers will then follow. I would think that the LG G3 would receive its 5.1 update before that occurs. Of course, since Android M being announced at Google I/O, this certainly changes what will be the latest version of Android.
