If you happen to own one of the newer HTC smartphones out there, then you would surely do well to be on the lookout for a new Android 7.0 Nougat update. After all, HTC did pretty well for themselves where the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is concerned, and so expectations do run high for the new Android 7.0 update for a slew of its newer devices, namely the flagship HTC 10, HTC 10 Lifestyle, HTC One A9, and HTC One M9. So far, HTC has confirmed the news over Twitter that these devices would definitely be on the receiving end of the Android 7.0 Nougat update, but failed to pin down a specific release date, a move that has proved itself to be annoyingly frustrating so far.

At least there is a promise of an Android 7.0 Nougat update, and with HTC being behind the scenes of this year’s Nexus handsets, it might also translate to the very real possibility that HTC will have additional access to Android N as opposed to its rivals in the industry. It would also not come across as a surprise to know that such a unique position in which HTC is in would allow it to finalize builds for its existing stable of smartphones far faster than its rivals.

A GFXBench benchmark was recently spotted to show off an alleged HTC device which was labeled as “INVALID Android HTC Edition”, where it does carry the specifications of the HTC 10 right down to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory, 5.1-inch Quad HD display, and Android 7.0 Nougat in tow. Is that a portend of things to come?

At the very latest, it is speculated that HTC 10 owners would be able to enjoy the Android 7.0 Nougat update by the time December 2016 rolls around, which should happen right before Christmas. There does not seem to be any possibility of the HTC 10 making a direct jump to Android 7.1 Nougat from the current Marshmallow version, so expect Google’s very own Pixel smartphones to parade Android 7.1 Nougat for some time before the rest of the Android-powered devices go down that route.

The same can be said for the souped down HTC 10 Lifestyle with its Android 7.0 Nougat update, where a few more months of waiting would surely not be too long of a time period to ask, especially when you have had played the patience card for quite a while now?

As for HTC One A9 and HTC One M9 owners, you might still be on the receiving end of the Android 7.0 Nougat update right after the HTC 10 gets it, although there could be a possibility that it might not happen too soon. After all, there is still some work that needs to be done to ensure that both of the older generation HTC smartphones will be able to play nice with Nougat, so a fair amount of tweaking has to be carried out.
