Google’s Android is one mobile operating system that has certainly come a long way ever since it was released seven iterations ago. Android 7.0 Nougat was revealed last year first on Google’s range of smartphones, and since then, it has appeared on many different smartphones from various manufacturers like LG, HTC, Sony, Samsung, and the ilk. However, Android Nougat is different from the updates of yore -- this time around, Google took a different step. They released Nougat to developers with a public preview beta programme, which would open the door to early access for new Android versions.
With Google’s very own Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones rolling out with Android 7.1 Nougat right out of the box late last year, things are starting to be interesting as new features are tacked on in Android 7.1 Nougat. The Android 7.1 beta program kicked off on October 19th, 2017, where the final roll out of Android 7.1.1 Nougat happened in early December last year. Google also did offer confirmation that Android 7.1.1 Nougat would be made available to supported handsets and tablets from December 5th onward, hitting the Pixel XL four days after that.
What about the most recent version of Android Nougat? We are peering down the hole with Android 7.1.2 Nougat, with a public beta just being announced today. It would also do all of you Android device owners a world of good to know that Google has confirmed how it will be working alongside other device manufacturers in order to deliver the Android 7.1.2 Nougat update to your respective device -- as long as it qualifies for Android 7.0 Nougat, it should be good to go for Android 7.1.2 Nougat.
The Android 7.0 Nougat update was released to LG G5 owners last year, while those rocking to Verizon Wireless and Sprint too, picked up the Android 7.0 Nougat update in December 2016. As for those who are using previous generation LG G Series smartphones like the LG G4 (or even the LG G3) will most probably have to be patient and ride it out for a few more months, although it is most likely that the LG G4 will pick up Android 7.0 Nougat (or even Android 7.1 Nougat) in the first half of this year.
What about the LG G6? The LG G6 is supposed to be the next generation flagship smartphone from the South Korean manufacturer. It is tipped to be revealed in Barcelona this February 26th at Mobile World Congress. Chances are the LG G6 will sport a 5.7-inch QHD+ display with a USB Type-C port located at the bottom and a top mounted headphone jack.
We would not be surprised to see that the LG G6 will be released with at least Android 7.1 Nougat in tow, although it would be even better news if it came with Android 7.1.2 Nougat right out of the box. The LG G6 will continue to maintain a fingerprint sensor at the back as well as its dual lens setup. Keep our fingers crossed that the camera sensors in there will be an improvement on the already impressive LG G5’s sensors, as those the LG G5 is getting old having used the LG G4’s sensor.
