It is official that Android 6.0 (otherwise known as Android M or Marshmallow) is finally available, but at this present time, only Google's own Nexus devices are receiving it.  Now that Google's own has received it first, it is time to see how Android M will roll out to other brands of smartphones, like Sony.  This is what is known about the Android 6.0 Marshmallow release date for the Sony Xperia Z5 series, the Z4 tablet, and the Z3 series of smartphones.

According to the International Business Times, there is a list of Sony's devices that will be receiving their upgrades to Android 6.0, and it is quite vast, including Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia M5, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M4 Aqua and Xperia C4.

Sadly, with all those devices that the company listed, there is no tentative release date on when Marshmallow will be delivered to any of them.  The official Sony Mobile blog reads this as of ten days ago to this writing:  "We've been working hard to bring this major update to as many of our devices as possible, as quickly as we can. We're really excited about the new Sony features & functionality and the improvements we've made to the user experience - and we'll be sharing more soon... so stay tuned to the blog and @SonyMobileNews for all the latest news on timings and features."

The issue with new Android rollouts is they can often be very slow.  Even companies like Samsung and LG have devices that they promise will receive the new Android update, but they don't have any tentative dates either.  HTC has made a promise with its devices, and will probably be within 90 days or before the year is out.

Generally, the newer Android devices receive their updates first, and then it is a slow trickle-down effect with all other devices after that.  With that scenario, the first devices to receive the Marshmallow update will be the Xperia Z5 series, which includes the new Xperia Z5, Z5 Compact, and Xperia Z5 Premium.  These devices were just unveiled recently, and if Sony is smart, it would attempt to placate its most recent consumers of the newest devices with some Marshmallow, presumably before the year is out.

Of course, the next in line would be the Xperia Z4 Tablet, which is also a new addition as of this year.  Sony kind of skipped a year when it came to the numbering, as the Xperia Z3 series is the next update in a reverse direction from the Z5 Series.  Last year, the big question was when Android 5.0 (also known as Android L or Lollipop) was going to come to the Z3 series, and it came much later than sooner.
