Google gave their formal announcement of the launch of Android 6.0 (also known as Android M or Marshmallow) about a month ago. As the tradition goes, Google's own Nexus devices will be getting it first, and then it slowly spills over onto other smart devices from other companies. This update isn't really a major overhaul, but it does have some new enhancements. For this reason, it should be easier to get the new upgrade into the hands of Samsung customers, and the Korean company has a good reputation of bringing the latest upgrades to their newer Android devices. This is what is known about the Android M 6.0 Marshmallow Release Date for Samsung Galaxy S6, S5, Note 5, Note 4 on Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint.
Pocket-Lint has pointed out that the last time there was a major upgrade of Android to version 5.0 (otherwise known as Android L or Lollipop) it took 31 days after the Google Launch. A website known as YouMobile claims that the following devices are in line to receive the Marshmallow update, and they include:
- Samsung Galaxy Note 5
- Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+
- Samsung Galaxy S6
- Samsung Galaxy S6 Duos
- Samsung Galaxy S6 edge
- Samsung Galaxy Note 4
- Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Duos
- Samsung Galaxy Note Edge
- Samsung Galaxy Alpha
- Samsung Galaxy Tab A
Know Your Mobile has also stated that Samsung has a reputation for updating Android quickly to its devices, and it believes that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will also be receiving a Marshmallow update. There really hasn't been a formal announcement from Samsung saying precisely which devices will be receiving the update, only that some will.
Samsung did not also say when these devices, which we can assume are the "newer" or released this year devices, will be receiving their Marshmallow update. Since this is the case, it should be expected that the update will take place on Samsung devices by the end of this year, assuming the company follows the same pattern as last year.
The newest Android devices like the S6, the S6 Edge, the S6 +, and the Note 5 should be the first to have it. After that, it will probably be the usual slow trickledown to older devices, and anything below the Galaxy S5 might not receive it until 2016. It is often a slow wait for users on this front.
In fact, the International Business Times reports that Samsung is already ready with the beta edition of Android 6.0, and it will be made available to general users after its testing is complete.
In the meantime, certain Android devices are getting updates to the next best thing. For example, the Note 5 on T-Mobile is getting a slight upgrade, according to Android Central. There are also reports that the Galaxy S5 will be getting its upgrade to Android 5.1.1, which is the highest version of Android before 6.0.
