Big Bang Theory Season 9 Recap, Cast Relationship Updates: Sheldon Rejects Amy; Leonard, Penny Enjoy Married life

Release date of season 9 of The Big Bang Theory, sans Klausen, is on Monday, September 21 at 8 p.m. ET.

The Big Bang Theory have long shifted its focus from the four geeky boys and turned its storyline towards the emotional development of its cast. Prior to the entry of the women in the show, Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons), Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki), Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg) and Rajesh Koothrappali (Kunnal Nayyar) had been confined within the limits of their academic work. Occasionally, the four ventured out to interact with other people who share the same interests in comic books, video games and science.

However, the entry of Penny (Kaley Cuoco) in their lives shook things up - especially for Leonard who instantly got a crush on the blonde beauty. Through a series of missteps and embarassing moments, the two eventually became a couple. Leonard and Penny later on tied the knot, and the two are featured navigating marital life in Season 9 of the Big Bang Theory.

In the episode The Platonic Permutation, Penny and Leonard are shown preparing for their first ever Thanksgiving dinner as a married couple. While a simple and traditional task was at hand, the two managed to discover new things about each other. For instance, the episode revealed that Penny had no idea when is Leonard's birthday.

This discovery then pushed Leonard to point out that he knows almost everything about Penny. She then began questioning him to disprove his claim - only to be shocked to know that her husband knows her quite well. However, things took a different turn when Leonard revealed that he knew Penny hated the orange lingerie he bought her for Valentine's Day. While that might have been an ordinary thing to know, the fact that Penny told no one of her feelings towards the said piece of clothing evoked suspicion. Leonard later on admitted that he read her diary.

This admission subsequently led to an argument. To make amends, Leonard decided to wear the orange lingerie and tease Penny with his appearance. While Leonard was in the midst of performing a supposedly funny and sexy dance number, the rest of the gang sans Leonard and Amy barged in their apartment. Needless to say, the situation got awkward.

Meanwhile, Amy and Sheldon enjoy a day at the aquarium. Initially, the car ride to the said place had been awkward as Sheldon attempted to veer away from personal topics during their conversation. However, Amy evetually told him he could ask anything he wants and she's open to discussing whatever he wanted to know. This gave Sheldon the opening to ask about her current dating life.

Amy admitted to having gone on six dates with three different men. She revealed that she met them for either dinner or coffee. She also replied to Sheldon's query on whether or not she has slept with any of them - that is, she has not. The two then went on to enjoy their day together as friends and Amy realized how much she missed Sheldon.

After their trip, Amy tells Sheldon she wants to be his girlfriend again. However, Sheldon rejects her. He said, "I excel at many things. But getting over you wasn't one of them. I think I need to be your friend." Amy then graciously accepts this decision and tries to keep a brave front for the heartbreak.

The next episode of Big Bang Theory Season 9, titled The Earworm Reverberation, will air on December 10, 2015 at 8:00 pm ET on CBS.
