An editor for Bloomberg criticized The New York Times for its alleged persistent bias against Donald Trump even after he won the election.

Mark Halperin, managing editor of Bloomberg Politics and senior analyst for MSNBC, said on Thursday's 'Morning Joe' show that the paper has continued to publish anti-Trump sentiments despite "a surprising underdog sweeping victory."

"I love the New York Times. I think it's a great institution. But look at the headline of this story," he said while holding up a copy of thepaper with the headline, 'Democrats, Students and Foreign Allies Face the Reality of a Trump Presidency.'

"This is the day after a surprising underdog sweeping victory," Halperin said.

Halperin also said the headline mostly reflects the disappointment of people connected with The New York Times management more than it reflects the public's opinion. If a Democratic candidate, whom the paper had predicted to have a low chance of winning, won the election, the story would not have been told the same way, he added.

"Their headline is not 'Disaffected Americans Have A Champion Going To The White House' or 'The Country Votes For Fundamental Change.' The headline is about how disappointed the friends of the people who run The New York Times are about what happened," Halperin said.

"I'll just say again: the responsibility of journalists is to not report on their biases, it's to go out and understand the country through the prism of the election and say why are people feeling the way they're feeling," Halperin said.

In September, Halperin said Trump could still win the presidency, saying there are seven or eight states that would dictate the election results, particularly when Trump appeared to be gaining over Hillary Clinton in battleground states like North Carolina, Ohio, Nevada and Virginia.

'Morning Joe' anchor Joe Scarborough agreed and said The New York Times editors "don't get it."

"This shows that the editors of The New York Times - I have the greatest respect for them - don't get it," Scarborough said. "This is a 'Saturday Night Live' sketch. You went to a cocktail party the night before and you decided to write this."

Scarborough explained that he and the rest of the 'Morning Joe' crew went around the U.S. and talked to people about their choice for president.

"We actually talked to people in Middle America. And they told us they were hurting, and they told us why they were voting for Trump," he said.

The New York Times endorsed Hillary Clinton for president in September. The editorial board said in a statement that it is endorsing her "in respect for her intellect, experience and courage" and to persuade others to vote for her.
