In a panel at PAX EAST 2016, Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford gave some interesting details on what to expect for the next Borderlands game. He confirmed that there will be another Borderlands title, but he's not sure what it would be called. 

Now, here's what is currently known about Borderlands 3 release date and rumors on the web.

IGN said gamers should not get too excited about the third installment of Borderlands game, because game developers are still clues if the game will be called Borderlands 3. Nevertheless, it is confirmed that the Borderlands 2 will have its successor.

Furthermore, Gearbox Software officials confirmed that Battleborn art director Scott Kester will manage the design of Borderlands 3, or whatever it ends up being called. Kester was the art director of the current Borderlands 2.

Furthermore, Euro Gamer reported Gearbox chief creative Champion Mikey Neumann will write the next Borderlands. He wrote Gearbox's mainline Brothers in Arms games and the first Borderlands game.

Neumann also teased fans about a possible new character in the next Borderlands game. He said Scooter's son, Scooper, could appear in the game's third installment. Scooper is said to have a super high-pitched voice. However, his appearance in the game is still a possibility, and developers have not yet confirmed it.

Interestingly, there would be Borderlands Easter eggs in Battleborn, and the DLC would have Easter eggs for Borderlands 3. This information was also announcement during Gearbox Software panel in PAX EAST.

Additionally, it was also revealed that Battleborn characters would appear in Rock Band 4.

Borderlands is a sci-fi first-person shooting game that features four-player 'drop-in, drop-out' online cooperative play. There is also a single-player mode and two-player split screen mode for consoles.  Most of the Borderlands' gameplay are consist of traditional first person game elements.  Aside from cool weapons, the player can use customizable vehicles in combat.

The first Borderlands game was released on October 20, 2009. It is playable on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Mac OS X.

While waiting for the Borderlands 3, let's check out what reviewers say about Borderlands 2.  A review from IGN says the game's second installment features additional visual customization options, improvements in narrative and revamped class skill design.  Moreover, players will definitely enjoy exciting loots and action-filled gameplay.
