The Memorial Day celebration for a family in Venice, Florida is made more memorable, and unforgettable after they discovered that a huge alligator chills out in their backyard pool ahead of them.
Scared, they called the office of Sarasota County Sheriff for help.
Deputy Lori Clark, upon arriving at the scene, found a seven-foot alligator swimming in the pool.
Clark called a trapper to get the alligator out of the pool.
It took a while for the trappers to hook a rope to its neck and get it out of the pool.
The Sherrif's Office noted that the alligator displayed its last resistance by doing a violently thrashing move.
"Luckily, these homeowners took a second look this morning before jumping in to kick off their Memorial Day," Sarasota Sheriff wrote in a Facebook post.
The responders brought the alligator to an appropriate place for it to live.
It was not determined whether the alligator is a male or female but its size may indicate its gender: female alligator rarely exceeds 10 feet long. Male alligators, according to records available in Florida, can grow as long as 14 feet like the one captured in Lake Washington, Brevard County.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission implements programs to conserve the "alligator population for their ecological, aesthetic, and economic values while providing for public use and safety."
