An earthquake of magnitude 6.9 struck the village of Songgon, Philippines, on Monday, February 6, 2012, leaving at least 43 dead and many more missing. Chinese Coordination Center of World Evangelism (CCCOWE) urged concern and care for the Philippines earthquake, praying that the Lord will be together with the search and rescue efforts and at the same time allowing more Filipino to come to know Jesus.
According to statement released on its website, CCCOWE said that since the disaster zone did not have large Chinese population, so no Chinese churches were affected by the earthquake. However, to quickly alleviate the victims’ situation, various Chinese churches in other cities in Philippine have been actively participating in disaster relief and providing material resources, which fully reveals the love of Chinese Christians.
There have been over 1,200 aftershocks since the main earthquake struck on Monday, which further worsen the safety hazards for the search and rescue team and chances of survivors. For this, CCCOWE asks that the Lord can provide strength and guidance to the rescue workers to quickly find the victims who have not yet been found; and at the same time pray that victims can be healed both physically and spiritually, where peace can abound in their hearts.
Lastly, the international network of global Chinese church leaders hopes that the victims of the Philippine earthquake after experiencing the threats of death can be awaken to their faith, from which they can come to know the loving compassion of the Lord savior Jesus Christ.
