HONG KONG - The annual summer event “Hong Kong’s Book Convention” started early this week at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, located on the centre of Hong Kong’s business hub Wanchai waterfront. The total number of participants this year has set the record of 483 companies and the number of attendants exceeded last year's attendants of over 760,000 people.

Among so many books, there are many Christian books that can provide nourishment to the soul. Since the first Hong Kong book convention in 1990, the Christian publishers who have always participated are Logos Publisher Ltd., Bible Society Ltd., China Alliance Press & Christian Publisher, and Breakthrough Publisher. Since 1995, they have invited various other organizations to together form the “Christian Exhibition.”

Association of Christian Publishers expressed that there are a total of 17 participating ministries, including Breakthrough Ministry, Chinese Christian Literature Council, Christian Communication Inc., Logos Publisher Ltd, Tieo Dao Worldwide Christian Media Association Ltd., Tien Dao Publishers House Ltd, Good News Communication Inc. Bible Society, and the Chinese Bible International Ltd. On the website of many participating ministries, book purchasing coupons and discounts of all types of books are listed.

In last year Sept., ACP held a luncheon titled “2008 Hong Kong Book Convention – Discussion on Successful Strategy” for the upper management staffs of the publishing companies to together review the past performances of Christian publishing companies at convention. They hope that they can reach a higher level at the 2008 Book Convention. The majority of the participating directors of various publishing firms have high confidence in the “Christian Book Exhibition”, because it has already become a brand and the remaining work needed to succeed is diligence.

The theme for this year’s book exhibition is “Read the World, Walk into the World”, which gives the encouragement of cross-cultural reading. There are a total of 13 exhibition halls.

While the excitement for Beijing Olympics in Aug. is on the rise, an “Olympic Book Exhibition Area” has been setup, enhancing the readers the knowledge towards this special event. In addition, ACP will be holding fund-raising activity called “Igniting Hope through One Book” at the exhibition, and the funds raised will be used to purchase books for the children victimized by the Sichuan earthquake disaster.
