VANCOUVER - Speaking in both Mandarin and translating in Cantonese all by himself, the president of Cultural Regeneration Research Society (Worldwide) Foundation addressed a crowd of 600 Chinese supporters of the ministry’s development at the foundation’s annual fundraising banquet on the night of Sept. 28.
Along with the sharing, the chairman of the foundation expressed thanks to all the guests and said that the foundation will continue their work in education and charity among the poor in China. Later that night, Angela Pang, influential pop-celebrity from Hong Kong, gave a song performance.
Within this last year, CRRS has initiated several new projects: the establishment of the Trinity Western University “CRRS Faith Hope and Love Scholarship”, which will go towards helping local Chinese-Canadian students to pursue higher education at the beneficiary university and developing its nursery curriculums; the selection of Rongshui County in Guangxi as a major area of support, where a resource and learning center was setup at a local high school; the support of children of peasant workers in Shanghai to continue to study in high school; the creation of English-learning classes in Guangxi, training local teachers and students, etc.
Furthermore, soon after the Sichuan earthquake took place in May, the foundation partnered with Chinese Christian Mission Canada in gathering donations to support the students in the disaster-stricken area to finish their basic education, assist in rebuilding the schools and help schools setup counseling services, etc. In addition, the foundation hosted the “Project Sunshine” this summer, leading 14 overseas Chinese youth to help the students in the underdeveloped regions of Guangxi through two weeks of English-training, and they’ve contacted with 120 students and 30 local English teachers.
The president of the foundation shared that when he was young after learning about China’s recent history, he realized that the Chinese people had so much pains and sorrows inside of them due to China’s sufferings. As a result, he became determined to contribute all that he has after finishing his studies to the motherland. His wish is to use love to heal the wounded China, rebuilt its dignity, spirituality, and culture.
Upon receiving his doctor’s degree, Leung went to help drug-users in the lower-stratum of the society and later went to Africa to do humanitarian-relief efforts. Through these experiences, he deeply realized the needs of the poor and felt this deep sorrow, so he deeply wished to fundraising a large sum of money to help these people in suffering. Because of these two wishes that he had when he was youth, he gave up the opportunity to get a high-paying job 14 years ago, establishing CRRS.
Throughout the past ten years, CRRS has taken steps to fulfill the ideals upon which it was founded, giving bits and pieces of love and compassion towards the weak, promoting values of truth, and living out the unconditional love of God.
Something that Leung often says while meeting the students in China who are receiving their financial support is “we don’t ask you to repay this debt, as long as you love those around you, love your society and country, then that is giving back to us.”
Lastly, the president hopes that the China’s future generation can live with hope and dignity and that CRRS (Worldwide) Foundation can help millions of impoverished around the world, spreading the compassion love of China to the ends of the earth.
