Marvel is currently the runaway leader when it comes to the cinematic universe of its characters, and you can say that Marvel also has a stranglehold on the small screen as well. Their partnership with Netflix has certainly yielded dividends over the years, with hits such as Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage making headway for people to enjoy some of the other superheroes from Marvel’s vast roll of honor. However, not all of Marvel’s work on Netflix has been appreciated, with the most recent of them all, Iron Fist, being panned in reviews. Still, this has not slowed down their attempt at conquering the TV landscape, and Netflix has just revealed that new seasons of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage have been confirmed for a 2018 release.
2017 might have seen Iron Fist rolled out, but there is still more than half a year more to go before we usher in 2018. From what we know, the remainder of 2017 will be equally exciting, since we would see the release of The Defenders and The Punisher. The Defenders is somewhat a budget Avengers, with the likes of Iron Fist, Daredevil, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones teaming up to form their own league of superheroes. Certainly, the schedule is packed to the brim for Netflix when it comes to such superhero types of shows, and we certainly look forward to new seasons of Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage.
Jessica Jones Season 2, Luke Cage Season 2, Daredevil Season 3
Season 2 of Jessica Jones has already entered production, and based on industry estimates, it has been said that 2018 would be the release date. Now, whether the release will happen at the beginning, or to kick off in the middle of the year, or even be released in the business end of 2018, remains to be seen. All that fans have to do is to sit tight and wait, as it will eventually happen. The question is, will it be sooner, or will it be later?
What of Luke Cage Season 2? Harlem’s virtually indestructible hero is all set to make an appearance in the second season, with filming being set to begin later this year. It should not take too long to clean up and edit the film once the second season is completed, and one surefire way of smelling that the Luke Cage Netflix series is about to be released? A trailer for the second season. This also applies for virtually all of the other Marvel Netflix miniseries.
Daredevil Season 3 will also be highly anticipated by fans and industry watchers alike, as showrunner Marco Ramirez will first have to wrap up filming of The Defenders (set to premiere on August 18, 2017), before he moves on to film the third season which has been scheduled to happen some time this year as well.
So far, there has been no official confirmation from Netflix or Marvel concerning the official release dates, but based on the filming dates, it would be logical to make the comparison that the Marvel miniseries on Netflix will premiere in the following order: Jessica Jones is set for a spring debut, followed by Luke Cage in late summer after all of the summer blockbusters are done on the silver screen, and Daredevil to make your fall or winter a far more interesting experience as a couch potato.
We do hope to be able to see the Netflix Marvel universe continue on the same, positive trajectory in the years to come, as opposed to petering out. Sooner or later, there will be fatigue among the viewers, which is to be expected, but fans would hope to see it last as long as possible. There is also the possibility that with Marvel’s roster of characters, there is virtually an endless amount of material to work with for future series that will be an infinite cash cow for both Marvel and Netflix.
