Marvel's "Daredevil" has been a hit among Netflix viewers, which prompted the video streaming company to renew the series for season two. Now "Daredevil" star Charlie Cox has expressed his thoughts on which characters should make an appearance there, giving viewers a glimpse of the potential cast and the release date in 2016.
In an exclusive interview by Phil de Semlyen of Empire Podcast, Cox, who plays the hero Matt Murdock, elaborated on his dream line-up for the new series. He also indicated that new villains could show up in the Hell's Kitchen underworld.
"I have to be careful because we just got commissioned so I have no idea who is going to turn up," Cox said. "Based on the show we've created, which is very grounded in reality, I'd like to see Punisher maybe show up, a little bit of Elektra maybe. I wouldn't mind Black Widow making an appearance."
Cox added that he would want to see Bullseye make an appearance in the next season of "Daredevil."
"I don't know when or if or how that would happen, but it'd be cool if it did," Cox said.
Cox then turned his focus on the timetable Netflix has laid out for the show's production.
"We'll begin shooting in the second half of the year," Cox said. "It'll be the same timeline as the last show, so season two will come out about this time next year."
The actor emphasized that he was just speculating on what season 2 could bring to viewers as well as other Marvel shows Netflix would be streaming.
"Again, I'm imagining all this, but they'll probably do Iron Fist or Luke Cage at the same time, followed by the other one [of the two] in the first half of 2016 and then maybe Defenders in the second half of 2016 or the beginning of 2017," Cox said.
Cox indicated to Empire that he was ready to get back into the superhero's red suit.
"What's exciting is to have a season where [Matt Murdock] is really embodying his alter-ego before we get to the Defenders," Cox said.
The "Daredevil" star told Chris Tilly of IGN that it was awesome to wake up to "an email that made me realize I have a job," a reference to Netflix's decision to keep Marvel's show in production. He indicated that he would also love to see appearances by "Stilt-Man" and "Owlsley," although it was more likely that Bullseye, The Punisher and Elektra could be written into the script.
"I don't know if any of those characters will appear, and also I don't know what's going to happen with Wilson Fisk," Cox said. "He's certainly not out of the picture. Hopefully he'll come back."
