It is pretty clear that Marvel set the bar high for the new Cinematic Universe featuring the Defenders with the first season of Daredevil.  Once it was realized that people had been binge-watching the show's first season, it was pretty clear that a Season 2 was an order.  Of course, there are a lot of things going on with the show, and it makes one wonder if the show will suffer Comic-Book Adaptation Syndrome.  This is what is known about Daredevil Season 2, Release Date and Updates.

If you are not familiar with Comic-Book Adaptation Syndrome (CBAS, which can be pronounced "sea-bass"), it is when a screen adaptation of something from comic book source material realizes that it has decades of comic book issues to pull from, and tries to pack several years of well-developed story into a comparatively small running time.  One of the best examples of this was Spider-Man 3, with three villains (Sandman, Venom, and a new Green Goblin) mixed in with a storyline about Peter becoming more evil and relationships with Mary Jane Watson and Gwen Stacey.  Another example is X-Men 3: The Last Stand, which featured a plotline with a "cure" for mutants, Magneto raising and army, and the famed Dark Phoenix plotline.   A more recent example is the Amazing Spider-Man 2, which also had many villains and plotlines that didn't mix well together.  In case you are wondering if only Marvel is infected with CBAS, most fans have the same fear associated with DC's Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice when it premieres next year.

There are plot threads from Season 1 that will need to be dealt with, and they are numerous meaning that the chance of being infected with CBAS is high.  Karen Page has killed Wesley, the Kingpin's best friend.  The Kingpin is in jail, but he's probably going to at least try to find out who killed his best friend.  Foggy knows who Matt is, and Matt has a costume to officially become a super-vigilante.  By the way, a recent report from Den of Geek says that Daredevil's mentor, Stick (Scott Glenn) will be appearing in a few episodes in Season 2 as well.

Mixed in this story is going to be an introduction of several new characters.  Marvel states that Jon Bernthal, an actor best known for his roles on The Wolf of Wall Street, Fury, and TV's The Walking Dead, has been cast as The Punisher.  For those who are unaware of this character, he is one of Marvel's most popular superheroes, but he definitely delves into some villain territory.  In fact, some recent set photos of Bernthal as The Punisher have begun appearing.  Yahoo News shows Bernthal fighting a lot of people, and his face is seriously cut up.

In addition to The Punisher being a prominent antihero figure on the show, it would appear that there will be changes in store for Matt Murdock's love life as well with the introduction of a possible female antihero with Elektra.

Marvel has recently announced at a separate time that casting of Elodie Yung in the role of Elektra for Season 2 of the Netflix series, a very well-known character from the comic-book source material.  Elektra was a fan-favorite character that Daredevil fell for, but was unfortunately killed by an assassin named Bullseye.

Of course, Season 1 was absent of Elektra and Bullseye, and this was probably an attempt to distance the new Netflix show from the awful Ben Affleck Daredevil movie from 2003.  This film was also a victim of Comic-Book Adaptation Syndrome, and it is pretty clear that Daredevil Season 2 is going to really have to be tightly written in order to make it work with Elektra, The Punisher, plus the tie-in to other Marvel Defenders shows like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.  It is going to be tough for Daredevil Season 2, beginning in 2016, to avoid severe Comic-Book Adaptation Syndrome.
