According to official reports, former Chicago Bulls player Dennis Rodman has been listed as a person of interest in relation to a car crash that occurred at the 1-5 interstate in Santa Ana, California.
The incident happened during the early hours of Wednesday morning at the southbound lanes of the freeway. As reported by the investigators for the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the collision involved a BMW sedan. The driver of the BMW said that the driver of the other car left the scene immediately after the crash.
The driver identified the other person as Rodman, the retired NBA superstar.
Officer Florentino Olivera of the CHP said that they will investigate the matter based on the details provided by the driver of the BMW, whose passenger suffered minor injuries because of the accident.
Based on the driver's statement, we have to investigate," Olivera told NBC Los Angeles.
Olivera then explained that although Rodman has been listed as a person of interest, the officer noted that this doesn't mean that the controversial basketball player is the main suspect.
As noted by the New York Daily News, Rodman has a house at Newport Beach, which is just about an hour away from the area where the collision occurred. This means that there is a strong possibility that Rodman may have been the other driver of the car. Also, given the former professional athlete's distinct look, such as his tattoos and piercings, he can be easily recognized by anyone who's a fan of basketball or the NBA.
Still, though, as Olivera noted, the CHP is still carrying out an investigation into the matter. It is not yet clear if he was really involved since neither Rodman nor organizations close to him has released a statement regarding this subject.
Rodman became prominently known during his time with Michael Jordan and the rest if the Bulls from 1995 to 1998. Aside from his body art and colorful hair, his bad boy attitude on the court made him stand out from the rest of the players on the league.
Even today, he still continues to shock fans with his outlandish behavior such as befriending Kim Jong-un, the current dictator and Supreme Leader of North Korea.
