Elon Musk is probably one of the most ambitious persons out there. The recently named most admired tech leader has SpaceX, Tesla, and SolarCity under his belt. He has goals that spans from building fully autonomous cars to a Mars colony. One day, he was stuck in a traffic and got frustrated. Another idea sprung out of his mind. Musk said in a tweet that he might be starting a tunneling boring company.
Just this weekend, Musk said on his official Twitter account, "Traffic is driving me nuts. Am going to build a tunnel boring machine and just start digging..." He seemed to be joking around when he added, "It shall be called 'The Boring Company'." To make a point that he is actually serious, Musk tweeted the next day, "I am actually going to do this." He even changed his Twitter bio with "Tesla, SpaceX, Tunnels (yes, tunnels) & OpenAI". According to TechCrunch, though Musk is prone to goofs, it is likely that this is genuine. After all, it does not seem impossible for him to add this to his pursuits. After all, he is extremely successful in the industry. Even his 6.42 million followers in Twitter is an understatement to what he has already achieved.
Musk has been added last week as an adviser to President-elect Trump's Strategic and Policy Forum. The said economic forum include its chair Blackstone Group co-founder Stephen Schawrzman and members JPMorgan chief Jamie Dimon, GM Head May Barra, Disney's Bob Iger and IBM's Ginny Rometty. The Washington Post reported that they will be meeting with Trump frequently.
He has also beaten out Amazon's Jeff Bezos, Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, and the legendary Steve Jobs as the most admired tech leader. This was based on a survey conducted by VC firm First Round Capital from August to September 2016 among 700 founders. Musk was able to receive 23 percent of the votes, Bezos had 10 percent, Zuckerberg only had 6 and Jobs followed with 5 percent.
There is a reason why Musk is highly respected even outside his field. His goals are out of this world. He wants to set up a global high-speed internet connection with thousands of satellites. But he is mostly known for his plan of establishing a colony on Mars by 2024. In addition, SpaceX should be the first to send unmanned spacecraft to the famous Red Planet by 2018. Musk is also driven by one day seeing fully autonomous cars on the road. A tunneling boring company will only seem as a bleep to Musk's credentials.
