Facebook Is Hit With Another Glitch, A Month After Users Were Said To Be Dead

Facebook is hit with another glitch in their system. This time, it does not make the living users seemingly dead. Instead, the problem caused old photos to be re-posted as new. The recent incident has brought concerns from Facebook users who think their accounts are not really secure.

In case you were not using Facebook on Friday, the social media platform was hit with another glitch. Some have reported that photos that were posted months ago have been re-posted as new without the owner’s knowledge.

One of the affected users was PC Mag’s Stephanie Milot. Apparently, four of her old photos have re-appeared with recent timestamps rather than when they were originally uploaded. Others have shared what happened with their accounts through Facebook and Twitter. They have expressed their confusion, as well as question if their accounts are actually vulnerable to hackers.

According to the Boston Globe, one user wrote, “Why is this happening? Have I been hacked?” Another user has taken security measure and decided to change his password. He cited that it was done without his consent. To those who wanted the issue to be resolved, they have posted in the Facebook Help Community. Some have asked the social media platform on how to stop these photos from getting re-posted without their permission.

A Facebook spokesperson has told PC Mag, “We are aware of this and are investigating.” The recent glitch is nothing compared to what occurred last month. A large number of Facebook users were horrified as they received death notice. According to the US News & World Report, a message that read, “We hope people who love [name of the Facebook user] will find comfort in the things other share to remember and celebrate [his or her] life,” was posted on the top of their profile page.

Even Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was not exempted from the said bug. Though the management was able to fix it immediately and released a statement of apology. However, Facebook did not reveal what had caused the glitch.

Aside from these glitches, Facebook was also in a bad light after some had accused that it somehow influenced the result of the recently concluded US Presidential Election. Both Zuckerberg and another Facebook executive Sheryl Sandberg have already denied the claim. They insisted that the number of fake news on Facebook is only a small portion. It could not have possibly played a role in swaying the election in favor of President-elect Donald Trump. Since then, the tech giant has already been called to do more in addressing fake news on their site.
