Game developer Bethesda has just unveiled the latest patch for the console versions of "Fallout 4." As noted by various sources, update 1.5 comes with the new Survival Mode as well as support for the upcoming "Far Harbor" expansion pack.
Patch 1.5 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One's "Fallout 4" comes with a variety of bug fixes. But aside from these, it also brings Survival Mode to the console counterparts of the game. As explained by Bethesda, this mode has certain key points that are designed to test the decision-making abilities of players.
For instance, instance, in the new mode, players will have to rethink is they should engage in a fight or just walk away since damage points have been increased. In addition, the developer disabled the fast travel ability which makes exploration of various areas mandatory.
Another focus of the mode is how players properly manage their resources. In other words, various items are now harder to acquire in Survival Mode, which means players will have to be more careful when putting together their loadouts.
Also, the new feature no longer has auto-save and quick-save systems. The only way players can save their games is by sleeping.
"To save your game, you'll need to find a bed and sleep for at least an hour," Bethesda stated. "This means your feedback options are reduced, forcing you to be more concerned about what you are walking into and whether you're prepared to handle it."
"When beds are your only means of saving, they become the Holy Grail," the developer added. "With that level of importance tied to them, you will scour the Earth to find the closest bed to your next chose encounter - and in doing so you will likely discover things that you might have otherwise missed."
These are only some of the challenges players will face in Survival Mode. The others are meant to heighten the realism of the game by incorporating various factors such as fatigue, illness, load weight and number of enemies.
The Survival Mode can also be played on the upcoming "Far Harbor" expansion, which is set to come out for all platforms on May 19.
