New rumors have surfaced regarding the possibility of Fallout 4 being revealed at this year's The Game Awards show on December 5.

Geoff Keighley, game journalist and host of several game-related shows on G4TV, GameTrailers, and Spike TV, announced the new video game awards show to directly challenge Spike TV's Video Game Awards Show (VGX). Simply titled "The Game Awards," this new show has the backing of Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, and more to become the largest video game-specific awards show ever.

This first event will take place on December 5 from the Axis Theater in Las Vegas, Nevada. It's expected to not only hand out awards to the best and brightest in the video games industry, but it will also spotlight new and upcoming games in time for the busy holiday season.

But it's a recent tweet by Keighley that really got Fallout fans excited over the potential for a Fallout 4 announcement at the awards. On October 25, Keighley tweeted a photo of him with Bethesda's marketing team. "Great night planning with the ladies who run Bethesda." The tweet, although seemingly devoid of info about Fallout 4, got several fans into full speculation mode about the possibility of a reveal for Fallout 4 during the event.

Bethesda, the developer of the Fallout series since Fallout 3, has also produced the wildly popular Elder Scrolls, including the hit Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which was first announced during Keighley's Spike Video Game Awards in 2010. Fans realize that Keighley and the Bethesda team are tight, so this "planning" that Keighley is doing with Bethesda's marketing team may be leading to something big.

Back in June, Bethesda's game director, Todd Howard, hinted that Fallout 4 may still be in the works, although he mentions that the team likes to take its time and spring big news all at once.

"We get asked a lot, I sort of tell people we're figuring things out. We're taking our time, we're extremely excited about it and the reason we're kind of holding back right now is because we want to wait until it's really there to show it to everybody," he explained.

"We don't want to kind of dribble it out, we'd rather say, you know, 'surprise, boom, here it is.' And make sure that moment of learning about something and seeing for the first time is really... I enjoy those moments for other games so we'd rather hold back and wait and just surprise everybody."

But Fallout fans are getting so rabid about the next installment of the post-apocalyptic sci-fi game, that they're creating fake news announcements everywhere. Howard doesn't seem phased by this. "You know, we're used to that stuff over the years. Our fans are awesome. When they're not making mods they're making fake announcements. So I think everybody gets it and they know and they're willing to give us the time and hopefully they'll love what we're working on."

No official announcement or release date has been given for Fallout 4, but we'll be sure to watch Keighley's The Game Awards for more information.
