It may be hard to imagine that the Onion Knight, that the former Hand of the King (to Stannis Baratheon), that Ser Davos Seaworth is a serious contender to the Iron Throne. And in "Game of Thrones," his level of important is close to that of Jon Snow.

To be sure, Game of Throne fans will want a more prominent treatment of the Ser Davos (Liam Cunningham) as he was instrumental in reshaping the history of Winterfell. As seen in Season 6, Ser Davos worked hard to bring Jon Snow back to life, and when the latter did he ended up recapturing Winterfell for the House Stark and moving forward to Season 7 Snow is now the King in the North. When one looks back, the name Ser Davos will be all over the place.

And that might be the reason behind the GoT fan theory posted on Reddit. The discussion is floating the idea that the one-time loyal aide of Stannis is The Prince That Was Promised. In the past seasons, the Red Woman or Melisandre (Carice van Houten) was convinced was reserved to Stannis but she ended up utterly disappointed.

But when the assassinated Jon Snow was resurrected, the Red Priestess to the Lord of Light knew that the bastard son of Ned Stark (in truth the lovechild of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark) has the claim to the honor. And Snow will one day save the Seven Kingdoms from the deadly winter that is coming, as warned by Eddard in Season 1.

The same Reddit discussion thread seems to embrace the idea for a number of reasons. UPROXX said it was Ser Davos who picked up the Lightbringer when dropped by Stannis. And more importantly, he has divine powers like Melisandre.

As the same report recalled, when Melisandre performed the ritual to resurrect Jon Snow the dead man that he was did not immediately respond. He remained lifeless and all those present started on their way out. But Ser Davos knew Snow will live again so he begged and prayed for the dead man to open his eyes, and so he did and breathe again.

The scene was the proof it was Ser Davos who summoned Jon Snow back to life and Melisandre, if the Reddit fan theory is to be believed. Or if Davos is not The Prince That Was Promised, the character's importance is surely beyond what is seen at the moment.

At the very least, UPROXX said Ser Davos is like GoT's version of Samwise Gamgee, the Hobbit who made sure that Frodo Baggins will complete his mission of destroying the ring. In Game of Thrones, it will be Ser Davos that will make the way for Jon Snow to fulfill the prophecy, and perhaps to lay claim on the Iron Throne when the Night King has been defeated.

In Westeros reality though, Jon Snow will need to get past the Lannisters and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) to earn the right to sit on the Iron Throne.

Game of Thrones Season 7 will start airing July 16 on HBO and will run for seven episodes.
