There are several events that occurred during the Game of Thrones Season 5 finale which will have grave repercussions on the series as a whole, and will eventually show up in Season 6. After laying down several events of the Season 5 Finale Recap, we'll go into the Game of Thrones Season 6 Release Date and Spoilers.
According to Vox, one of the big events is Cersei's "walk of shame". This is where she has to walk through a crowd of King's Landing residents, naked and degraded, and it is the ultimate in humiliation. Then Qyburn reveals to her that he's resurrected the Mountain into a huge zombie warrior, and this would definitely affect Season 6.
Okay, time to address what all the fans are talking about: Jon Snow being murdered by the Night's Watch. Most people will say that Jon is not dead, and much of it is based on theories about resurrection that occurs a lot on Game of Thrones. Melisandre is back at the Wall, so that could happen. Apparently, it is revealed that Kit Harrington, the actor that plays Jon Snow, is back in Iceland for Season 6, according to Grantland.
Then there is the storyline where Arya Stark killing Meryn Trant, in the most horrific way possible of stabbing out his eyes. There is kind of a poetic justice as she goes blind herself, leading to some serious problems for her in Season 6.
The best example of a cliffhanger for Season 6 of Game of Thrones occurs when both Sansa and Theon leap from the high wall in Winterfell, just to escape the influence of Ramsay. You think they live to tell the tale? Find out in Season 6. Also, Ramsay is still alive, which means he will be up to no good in Season 6 as well.
Another death that seems ambiguous is one of Stannis. Brienne is slicing her sword down on his head, but then there is a cutaway. Season 6 could reveal him alive, but probably not a lot to live for, honestly.
Then there is also the death of Myrcella at the mercy of Sand Snakes' poison. This one was especially difficult as it is revealed that she was her uncle's daughter, but she could be alive, in Season 6, maybe.
By the way, Bran Stark has not appeared in any episode this season. Considering all the other plotlines going on Game of Thrones, it is not surprising that certain characters that were built up in earlier seasons were left out. Perhaps he will have some great role in Season 6.
This leads us to the two big fan favorites: Tyrion and Daenerys. Season 5 shows us that Tyrion is left in charge of Meereen, and he will use his manipulative prowess there to further his private agenda, much like he always does. He'll be accompanied by Grey Worm, Missandei, and Varys, and who knows what he'll connive in Season 6.
As for Daenerys, she kind of ends up back in Dothraki lands. She still has her dragon, but will the Dothraki that she meets with be friend or foe? She certainly drops her ring quickly enough. Perhaps she will build up herself up yet again in Season 6.
Game of Thrones Season 5 certainly put all the main characters at their lowest place. It is quite possible that Season 6 will build them up again, which will lead to the final denouement of Season 7. It will be interesting to see if the book series (which is planned at 7 books) that inspired the show can keep up with what has been a jewel on HBO's crown. The author of the original series, George R.R. Martin, has a lot of projects going and could possibly publish the 6th book of the series before Season 6 begins in 2016.
