When Google made their big announcement on September 29th, they introduced the Nexus 5X and the 6P. These two new devices will be fully unlocked and should work with major carriers, and come with the latest version of Android, version 6.0 (also known as Marshmallow or Android M). It was also announced that they will ship "later in October" with the Nexus 5X starting at $379 and the Nexus 6P starting at $499. That Release Date was deliberately vague, but we know more details now including reviews of the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P.
According to the International Business Times, the Nexus 5X will start shipping from October 22nd onwards. As for the Nexus 6P, it can also be pre-ordered and it will actually be coming out a little bit earlier as Gotta Be Mobile reports a shipping date of October 14th.
The Nexus 5X device is made by LG, and has a 5.2 display weighing in at 136 grams. The battery is a 2700 mAh, and it has a 64-bit processor. It also has the Nexus Imprint fingerprint scanner as well as USB Type-C. The update to the popular Nexus 5 comes in Carbon Black, Sports White, and Ice Blue.
As for the Nexus 6P, it is made by Huawei out of anodized aluminum at 7.3 mm thick with a 5.7 inch WQHD AMOLED display that comes in Frost White, Aluminum, and Graphite. It is about the size of the iPhone 6 Plus, but it also has a USB Type-C port that can charge a device twice as fast. It also features stereo forward facing speakers, as well as a 12.3 Megapixel "Sony imaging sensor", as well as a 5 Megapixel front-facing camera. Also involved is the "Nexus Imprint", which is a "seamless way of authenticating using a fingerprint".
A recent review of the Nexus 6P from Tech Radar gave it pluses for its more manageable size as a phablet, as well as having the latest updates of a fingerprint scanner and Android Marshmallow. The downside was the minuses given for the 6P possessing no microSD slot and an "ugly camera bulge".
A separate article from Tech Radar also gave the Nexus' sister phone, the reviews were for the most part positive. In comparison with the 6P, the Nexus 5X is good for one-handed operation for a price that matches the convenience (a 32 GB version is available for a price of $429). The negative points were given as the Nexus 5X also has no microSD slot, and just 2 GB of RAM.
If any of these devices sound good to you, the Nexus 6P can be ordered on the Google Store and the Nexus 5X can be pre-ordered. This means that you could order up the Nexus 6P now and get it within the shipping time, but would have to wait for your Nexus 5X.
As for concerns of users' privacy, all scanned fingerprints will remain on the device and will not be collected or be transmitted anywhere else, according to Google's rep. During the creation of this feature, the phone designers took special care in how Imprint Sensor feature will be implemented.
