"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" star Chris Pratt just became a member of the Hollywood Walk of Fame - and used his acceptance speech to refer to himself as a "man of faith" and credit God and his family for his success.
"I'm a man of faith and I believe that God works in mysterious ways and gives us signs and gifts in life - and those gifts oftentimes come in the form of people," the actor said during his acceptance ceremony on Friday. "So I'll just spend the rest of my time expressing gratitude for the people in my life who are gifts."
After thanking his mother, brother, and sister, Pratt spoke to his wife, Anna Faris: "I want to thank my wife Anna, I love you. You've given me so much. You gave me the greatest star in the galaxy in my little boy, I love him and I love you," he said.
He added, "We have bonded to make this molecule that is more important to me than air or water, and without it none of this means anything to me. With every challenge, with every day, week, month, decade, we become more bonded. You make me laugh like nobody else. You're very caring, and thank you for your trust and your sacrifice - and for your dedication and your heart. I will do my best to protect it, and in return I will give you all of those things as well. You have my heart, my dedication, my trust."
In an Instagram post shared last week, the "Jurassic World" actor shared a photo of the star along with the caption: "Psalm 126:3 'The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.' Thank you to the many, many people who empowered me to follow my dreams."
Pratt - the highest grossing actor of 2014 - frequently discusses his Christian faith, and in a recent interview with Vanity Fair, he shared how he came to know Christ.
The actor revealed that, as young man living in Hawaii, he was sitting outside of a grocery store, looking for someone to buy him beer because he was underage. He recalled: "A guy named Henry came up and recognized something in me that needed to be saved."
He went on: "It should've made me nervous but didn't. I said, 'Why are you asking?' He said, 'Jesus told me to talk to you ...' At that moment I was like, I think I have to go with this guy. He took me to church. Over the next few days I surprised my friends by declaring that I was going to change my life."
Vanity Fair notes that Pratt's story is "strange" and "so distant from what we expect of a movie star."
"In that moment, he yielded," the article reads. "His path has been clear ever since."
Since then, the actor - despite his sometimes raunchy sense of humor - has been consistently vocal about his Christian faith, especially after the premature birth of his son, Jack, who was born nine weeks early and weighed only 3 pounds.
"We were scared for a long time," Pratt previously told People about him and his wife, regarding the month that their son spent in ICU. "We prayed a lot."
The actor says the ordeal redefined his faith in God. "It restored my faith in God, not that it needed to be restored, but it really redefined it," said Pratt. "The baby was so beautiful to us, and I look back at the photos of him and it must have been jarring for other people to come in and see him, but to us he was so beautiful and perfect."
Introducing her husband on Friday, Faris emotionally thanked him for his unconditional love for her and Jack and said that, during her son's premature birth, Pratt "stood by" her and was her "anchor": "I'm the beneficiary of all this because I get to spend every day with this wonderful man," she said. "I know that if our circumstances were different and we weren't as fortunate to be standing here and living our Hollywood life, we would be happy in the woods together, I think."
