Kurt Russell: To be in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2? AJC

Marvel had more than a moderate success when they released Guardians of the Galaxy in the summer of 2014.  It was a film that was a big-budget risk, but it showed that Marvel's intellectual comic book properties are on the rise.  Of course, a sequel was green-lit, but not much is known about it at this present time.  There are rumors that Kurt Russell will be in the film, and it could be a role that fans want to see him play: Star-Lord's father.

According to AJC, it looks like Kurt Russell might need to sign onto Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2.  What makes it kind of funny is that apparently the actor hasn't seen the original film yet, but he talked to writer and director James Gunn on the phone.

Kurt Russell is going to appear in Quentin Tarantino's newest film The Hateful Eight, and it is also rumored that he will have a major role the next Fast and the Furious 8 film.  The actor is known for many roles, having started young with Disney.

If Kurt Russell is going to be in the film, what character would he play?  Most want to believe that he would be playing Peter Quill/Star-Lord's father, a person only mentioned in the original film.  As viewers remember, Chris Pratt's character has an alien for a father and a human for a mother, but the identity of his father remained a mystery even at the end of the film.

The original film did promise that The Guardians of the Galaxy will return, and it is set to film in Atlanta in early 2016.  According to IMDB, it is scheduled to be released on May 5, 2017.  It looks like the main cast is set to return which not only includes Star-Lord, but Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Nebula (Karen Gillan), Drax (Dave Bautista), The Collector (Benicio Del Toro), Yondu (Michael Rooker), and Groot (Vin Diesel).

The big wonder is whether or not the Guardians of the Galaxy will be featured in the two new Avengers films.  Infinity War Part 1 is due out in 2018, and Infinity War Part 2 is due out in 2019.  The Infinity War was a huge event in Marvel feature Thanos as he sought the Infinity stones to obtain power.  Considering that the Infinity Stones and Thanos have been introduced in both the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy films, it almost looks like Marvel's Cinematic Universe is setting itself up for a very big team-up.

Whatever the case, the Guardians of the Galaxy has enough galactic mischief going that it could easily be a trilogy of movies, and much more.
