Houston Texans Roster Update: Team Regretting Getting Brock Osweiler as Starting QB?

Given the way the Houston Texans have been playing this season, it seems the team is already starting to regret shelling out $72 million just to take away quarterback Brock Osweiler from his former squad the Denver Broncos. And, if Osweiler continues to make bad plays, this could eventually push the Texans to appoint backup rookie Tom Savage to the starting spot.

The Texans have been facing a losing streak since Week 11 after taking on the Oakland Raiders in Mexico City. Then, last Sunday, the team lost again to the underdog the San Diego Chargers.

Throughout the 2016 season, the team's devastating losses have been widely attributed to Osweiler. As pointed out by FanSided, the quarterback made numerous bad plays in the match against the Chargers. For instance, during the third quarter while Houston was trailing behind San Diego, Osweiler hesitated in the pass to DeAndre Hopkins. This delay gave the Chargers' defensive line enough time to close in on Hopkins.

Plays such as this are what make Osweiler an ineffective quarterback for the Texans. Although he had a lot of potential during his time with the Broncos, it seems this disappeared by the time he got to Houston. Unfortunately for the team, the Texans immediately jumped on Osweiler by signing him to a four-year deal worth over $70 million.

Fortunately, all is not lost for the Houston franchise. The team still has a chance of saving its record and playoff contention by making a drastic change to the quarterback lineup, House of Houston reported.

Backing Osweiler is Savage, Houston's 135th overall pick from the 2014 NFL draft. During his debut year with the team, he served as a regular starter after Ryan Fitzpatrick suffered a broken leg in December.

If Savage doesn't work out as an effective quarterback for the Texans this season, they can then go with third-stringer Brandon Weeden. This veteran quarterback has been with Houston since 2015 and led the team to its first victory in Indianapolis against the Colts after T.J. Yates suffered an injury.

With two talented quarterbacks sitting on the sidelines, it seems the Texans should consider rotating its passers just to see if they will be able to find someone that's more suited than Osweiler. Who knows, they might even end up in the same situation as the Dallas Cowboys after Dak Prescott took on the starting role and led the team to an impressive winning streak.
