Hewlett-Packard (HP) has been offering consumers very affordable electronics for many years, and it is pretty clear that they want to dominate a low-income laptop market with their Chromebook series. The company puts out a new Chromebook every year and announces it in the fall just in time for it to be out before the holiday season. You might not be able to install most Windows and Mac software on a Chromebook, but should you use Google Chrome exclusively for web browsing on this new HP laptop, you might find it worth the money. According to PC World, one of the biggest changes to Hewlett-Packard's new Chromebook 14 is the price as the starting price of the 2015 Chromebook has gone down to $250, which is $50 less than the 2014 model.
As for the specs, the processor has been switched out, as the 2015 Chromebook has Intel's 2.16 GHz dual-core Celeron N2840 in exchange for last year's Tegra K1 processor. Much of the remaining specs have not changed as it has a 14-inch 1366 x 768 IPS display, 2GB of RAM, 16 GB of onboard storage, two USB 2.0 ports, one USB 3.0 port, HDMI connection, microSD slot, and headphone jack. The battery life has also remained the same at 9.25 hours.
If the storage space on the 2015 Chromebook's internal drive or microSD slot is not enough for you, there is more available as the user will receive 100 GB of free drive storage for two years. Also included with the 2015 Chromebook 14 is 12 free Gogo in-air Internet passes for U.S. domestic flights, three free Google Play movie rentals, and 90 days free of Google Play music.
Tech Times reports that HP wants to "make a splash", and this is visible with the sky blue colorway of the Chromebook 14 as its blue interior and white lid "jumps out at you". The Chromebook 14 will also have a silver model. This is actually a downgrading of colors as last year HP offered four different colors and three the prior year.
According to Engadget, the Chromebook 14 will be available here in the United States on November 8th, with the aforementioned starting price of $250, but it will cost $280 with a full HD screen with 1080p resolution.
As the Chromebook 14 is prepared to enter the laptop/tablet market, it faces some stiff competition from Microsoft with their Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book. Users will also be purchasing the new version of the iPad Pro, with its large screen. However, it cannot be denied that the Chromebook 14 is practically one-fourth this price, which means many consumers will get in on this based on price alone, especially when it comes to doorbusters on Black Friday.
