Samsung has their exploding Galaxy Note 7 fiasco which has led to a halt in production of the ill-fated device, but this does not mean that Apple’s recent recall of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s models with defective batteries are of the same scale. Far from it, as there is no risk of explosion when it comes to iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s batteries, but rather, it is the annoyance of experiencing unexpected shutdowns for both handsets that have led to user frustration over the situation. This has led Apple to announce that they will be offering a free battery fix for owners of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s, as long as they are affected by the unexpected shutdown issue.
In a Support post that made its way to Apple’s website earlier this week, Apple reiterated that the company would be offering a free battery fix, which would be a replacement battery, without users having to fork out a single cent. Of course, not all iPhone 6s and iPhone 6 owners will qualify, since this free battery replacement program will be limited to iPhone 6s units that were bought between September and October 2015. Even so, that range will be whittled down even further to a selected serial number range.
Word of unexpected shutdowns in the iPhone 6s started to filter through a few days back, where most of the issues hail from China. A bunch of iPhone 6s owners in that part of the world started to complain about unexpected shutdowns in their smartphones even when there was still more than enough battery life as shown on the screen. The Chinese consumer-protection agency, also known as the China Consumers Association, contacted Apple so that the Cupertino company will be able to sort things out -- pronto.
Apple has investigated the matter and claims that this is an uncommon battery problem, but nevertheless, one that can be corrected through a battery replacement. The China Consumer Association’s open letter mentioned, “In view that Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s series cellphones in China have a considerable number of users, and the number of people who’ve reported this problem is rather many, China Consumer Association has already made a query with Apple.”
Bear in mind that this is not a safety issue, so you need not worry about your iPhone 6s or iPhone 6 spontaneously combust while you are checking your email or watching a video on it.
