Jeremy Lin has confirmed that he is once again a member of the Brooklyn Nets. Of course, the 27-year-old NBA star did not forget to thank his former team the Charlotte Hornets for a very memorable year.
Over the weekend, Lin took to Twitter to break the news about the return of Linsanity to New York. In his tweet, the point guard posted a photo of him wearing his #7 uniform for the Nets. The background of the picture also featured a large logo of the Brooklyn NBA franchise.
"The journey continues...thankful for the next chapter!! #Godisgood," he posted.
According to sources, Lin's deal with the Nets is worth $36 million and will last for three years.
Lin's decision to join the Nets is a momentous one since it means he will be returning to New York, where the Linsanity phenomenon began. From 2011 to 2012, Lin surprised the NBA community by averaging 14.6 points per game during his year with the New York Knicks. This is certainly a very huge improvement from his 2.6 PPG average when he was still with the Golden State Warriors.
Of course, if Linsanity happens again next season, it will be in a different borough in New York.
Also, Lin's return to New York will reunite him with Kenny Atkinson, the current coach of the Nets. Atkins served as the assistant coach of the Knicks during Lin's time with the team and has been largely credited as one of the main figures for the athlete's explosive career and performance.
After announcing his decision to sign with the Nets, Lin then thanked his former team the Hornets and their fans for welcoming him during his stay with the team from 2015 to 2016. Although he was only with Charlotte for a year, he noted that being part of the Hornets roster is a significant experience for him because that's when they were able to reach the playoffs for the first time in 14 years.
"Man, thank you guys for embracing me last year," Lin posted on Reddit. "It really was my most enjoyable season in the NBA, and a big part of that was because fans (especially the kids who showed up with mohawks lol). It was awesome to be a part of a season that surpassed expectations and brought the city its first playoff win in years."
"I will always cherish my team in Charlotte, but I couldn't pass up this opportunity to continue seeing what I can do as a basketball player," he added. "Thank you Buzz City!!"
