Kim Jong-un’s ex-girlfriend and a dozen well-known North Korean musicians were executed by firing squad on Aug. 20 for allegedly making sex tapes and selling them, according to South Korea’s leading newspaper.

The reports came from sources in China, where singer Hyon Song-wol and Mun Kyong-jin, head of the Unhasu Orchestra, were arrested on Aug. 17 under allegations of videotaping themselves having sex and selling the videos, a violation against North Korean laws against pornography, The Chosun Ilbo reported. The tapes were reported to have gone on sale in China.

“They were executed with machine guns while the key members of the Unhasu Orchestra, Wangjaesan Light Band and Moranbong Band as well as the families of the victims looked on,” the source told Chosun Ilbo.

Some of the executed were alleged to have Bibles in their possession, the source said, and all were treated as political dissidents.

Kim and Hyon were in a relationship about a decade ago before either of them was married, but his father Kim Jon-il ordered him to break off the relationship, according to The Ilbo. Since then there have been rumors that the two were having affair.
