A pilot order has been placed by FX for the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ spinoff titled ‘Mayans MC.’

The show puts the spotlight on the motorcycle club’s rivals, known as the Mayans. This group was involved in prostitution and sold heroin in the original series and, in ‘Mayans MC,’ one of their members will struggle with his attempts for payback against a drug cartel.

Aside from his plans for vengeance, EZ Reyes will also have to deal with “his need for the women in his life to respect him.”

While ‘Sons of Anarchy’ was set in Northern California, the upcoming spinoff will take place at the California/Mexico border. According to the former’s creator Kurt Sutter, several characters from the original show could make an appearance.

In the original series, the Mayans were known as a Latino motorcycle club that had a strained relationship with the Sons. While starting out as rivals, the two clubs ended up becoming allies before the show ended.

With Sutter directing, ‘Mayans MC’ is set to film its pilot in March. The script was co-written by executive producer Elgin James, whose experiences with a troubled childhood, juvenile detention and gang involvement is expected to bring on the real deal to the upcoming series.

As pointed out by Sutter, he did not merely aimed “to just throw some white guy at it.” He then looked towards the participation of a writer-director who has a deep understanding of Latin culture and traditions in coming up with ‘Mayans MC.’

“I wanted to find a strong, unique Latino voice. Because I didn’t think a white guy from Jersey should be writing about Latin culture and traditions. Elgin is that voice,” Sutter explained.

Meanwhile, with all the hype surrounding the forthcoming spinoff, cast members from the original series have spoken up about having to bring their characters back if the show calls for it.

Former ‘Sons of Anarchy’ actress Kim Dickens spoke with ComicBook.com and shared that she would be thrilled if she would reprise her role in the new series.

“I would absolutely get on board with that. It was an incredible show and i’d be really interested,” Dickens said.

Currently starring on AMC’s ‘Fear the Walking Dead,’ the actress went on to talk about Colette, the character that she previously played on ‘Sons of Anarchy.’

"I loved that he [Sutter] brought me back as a madame," Dickens said. "I thought it was pretty clever to bring me back as a modern-day Madame."
Other cast members from ‘Sons of Anarchy’ have also talked about their experiences of working for Sutter and their desire to reprise their roles in the upcoming spinoff.

Even Emilio Rivera, who played Marcus Alvarez, has expressed his wanting to reappear in a show related to the ‘SOA,’ although his character’s return has not been confirmed yet.

‘Sons of Anarchy’ has been recognized as the highest-rated ongoing drama series in the history of FX.
