Microsoft Surface Pro 4, and possibly a Surface Mini are rumored for release soon, if not this fall. Microsoft is going to have to do a lot in order to top what Apple has done with unveiling of their new iPad Pro, so what could it be? This is what we know about the Microsoft Surface Pro 4, as well as the possible Surface Mini Release Date and Specs for Windows 10.
A new report speculates that the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is going to have several major upgrade, yet not official reports on the specs, release date, or even the existence of the tablet have yet to be revealed. According to Forbes and other rumors, here is what is expected:
The first is a use of a new processor, and all reports and rumors seem to point to the Skylake, and Microsoft will use Broadwell chips in order to make a tablet without a fan, making it quieter than its predecessor.
Another rumor is that the Surface Pro 4 is expected to have an Intel RealSense 3D camera. Not only is this more advanced, but it can also be used to for Windows 10's new facial recognition feature. This will allow logging in just by looking. Speaking of logging in, there will also be a fingerprint scanner as well as the facial recognition.
One of the biggest rumors that have been (excuse the pun) surfacing is that the Surface Pro 4 will have a larger screen. This might have something to do with a recent announcement from Apple with the iPad Pro. If there is a trend for bigger screens on tablets, then it stands to reason that the Surface Pro 4 could have a screen as huge as 14 inches on the diagonal.
This is assuming that the Surface Pro 4 will come in only one size. There have been a report that a Mini Version of the Surface will be released. This Mini Surface Pro is probably out to compete with the iPad Mini market, and little is known about what will come after the iPad mini 3. It is believed that the mini Surface Pro is made to provide users with all the features necessary for a tablet, while allowing for scaling up to Desktop usage, simply by connecting to a larger display. Considering how Continuum for phones are appearing on Windows 10, a mini Surface Pro 4 could give all the benefits of a tablet on the go but an ability to scale up to desktop use by connecting to a bigger screen. Of course, I just reported that the new Surface Pro 4 could have a 12-inch and 14-inch version, so will the Mini be smaller than that or take the smallest size?
According to Tech Radar, Microsoft has sent out invites to media for a big event to be held on October 6th and it says: "We have some exciting news to share about Windows 10 devices". It is possible that Microsoft might not introduce the Surface Pro 4 at all, but rather use this time to talk about their latest smartphones, the Lumia 1030, 940, and 940XL, which are intended to compete with the latest Nexus models from Google, which will be formally announced at the end of the month.
As far as the price and release date is concerned, the 12-inch Surface Pro 4 is estimated to cost about $800, the larger $14 inch model could be $100 or $150 more. As or the Mini, that would depend on the screen size, but most report that the new Surface Pro 4 and its derivatives will be on sale in October.
