Microsoft is challenging the dominance of Apple when it comes to high-end laptops. How does the upcoming Surface Book 2 compare to the MacBook Pro 2016?

Apple's MacBook Pro 2016

The MacBook Pro 2016 is one of the most awaited tech releases of the year, mainly because Apple's line of laptops have not seen an update for some time. But Apple fans were in for a disappointment if they were hoping to see some major improvements. The new laptop is technically the same as the last version when it comes to the memory and the processor used. The only major addition is the Touch Bar that is located at the top of the keyboard.

Apple also made a risky choice when they opted to drop all the other types of connection and just use the USB-C type connection on their new MacBook. Users are now forced to buy different adapters in order for them to be able to use the laptop in the same way that they used older versions. The cost of the different adapters can add a significant cost to the device.

Microsoft's Surface Book 2

Apple's latest laptop is getting a lot of negative publicity right now and Microsoft might just use those in order to promote their own device. The Surface Book 2 is a hybrid laptop, which is rumored to be released in 2017, though there is no official word about its release date yet.

The delay with the release of the Surface Book 2 might have something to do with Microsoft's desire to use the processor for it. They are reportedly waiting for the Intel Kaby Lake which is set to come out by early 2017. If the new laptop is really equipped with that processor, then it would come out as a really powerful device.

There have been reports going around that Apple was also waiting for the new Intel processor but the company seems to have chosen to stick with the older Skylake. If Apple really will really retain the older processor then Microsoft's new laptop would be the more powerful of the two devices when they are compared next year. The use of the more powerful processor could give the Surface Book 2 more features like giving it the ability to display a higher resolution even with the 13.5-inch screen that it is supposed to have.

Fans of the two brands will have to wait until next year to see the showdown between their two new laptops.
