The Android 7.0 Nougat update has been made official since August, and needless to say, it was Google’s collection of smartphones and mobile devices that were the first to pick up the Android 7.0 Nougat update. The rest of the world simply needed to wait -- although if you were one of those who decided to splurge on a LG V20, then that smartphone came with Android 7.0 Nougat right out of the box.
Verizon Moto phones that are confirmed for the Android 7.0 Nougat update
Motorola’s global portal has listed the following devices from Verizon that should receive the Nougat update in due time would be the Moto Z (Droid Edition), Moto Z Force (Droid Edition), Moto Z Play, Droid Turbo 2 (XT1585), Droid Maxx 2 (XT1565), and Moto X Pure Edition. Every other Moto handset from Verizon not listed here will miss the boat.
T-Mobile, Sprint, and Android 7.0 Nougat
T-Mobile’s Nougat-powered smartphone is a lonely proposition. T-Mobile's only offering that will get the Android 7.0 Nougat update would be the Moto X Pure Edition, and the same goes to Sprint.
AT&T has no devices from Motorola that would pick up the Android 7.0 Nougat update when available, which means your best bet would be to pick up Moto devices from Verizon if Nougat’s your cup of tea in the near future.
Motorola in India and other parts of the world
As for Motorola owners, what are the chances of Android 7.0 Nougat raining down on your smartphone model? It seems that over in India as well as in Brazil, the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus have already been on the receiving end of the Android 7.0 Nougat update, and this could signal a worldwide release of the Nougat update for the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus.
Why India, some of us ask? The answer is pretty simple -- India boasts of the second largest number of Motorola smartphone users throughout the world, so it would be a wise idea to keep customers in the world’s largest democracy happy. Not only that, with so many users around, then surely it would be easier to discover any bugs or glitches, compared to a very limited market.
The Moto G4 has proven itself to be a reasonably huge success in India, and that might be the reason behind pushing forward the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the said handset as well as the Moto G4 Plus compared to other markets in the world. Having said that, the Android 7.0 Nougat update is also tipped to arrive for the Moto Z family of devices this month. The International Business Times claims that the Android 7.0 Nougat update is all set to roll out for the likes of the Moto X, Moto Droid and Moto E handsets before the year is over.
Not only that, we have also received word that the recently launched Moto E3 Power might also be on the receiving end of the Android 7.0 Nougat update, although an official announcement has yet to be made. Motorola has clearly kept their cards close to the chest, as prodding around yielded nothing for the Moto E3 Power’s status, and it did not appear on Motorola's official list so far. It might not make the cut for being too entry level though, so one might want to reconsider getting the Moto E3 Power if you would not like to remain stuck with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. As Moto E3 Power carries on with the Moto G4 and G4 Plus’ design language, it would be nice if the software were to follow suit, too.
