It seems Derek Fisher, the former head coach of the New York Knicks, has been preparing to make an NBA comeback but as a player again. Although it is not yet certain if he'll be able to make a comeback, there's a chance that he might end up with the team where he used to play.
The last time that Fisher was an NBA player was in 2014, back when he was still a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder. After his stint as a player, he was hired by the New York Knicks.
However, his role as a coach didn't last long after the team fired him in February of this year. Apparently, the New York organization was not happy that the team lost nine out of ten games under the guidance of Fisher.
Now, at 42 years old, Fisher is mulling on returning to the court as a player. He made this clear by posting workout videos of himself with the hashtag "Imnotdoneyet," according to ESPN.
"On-court workouts have been part of my regimen since I played my last game," he tweeted.
Although Fisher also said that he has no solid plans of returning to the NBA, he is very open to the idea of it if he gets an offer from a team.
"If an NBA team express interest, I'm open to dialogue, but at the moment I have no steadfast plan to play again," Fisher posted.
One team that could approach Fisher with an offer are the Thunder. This could happen especially since the team recently lost its key player Kevin Durant when he decided to sign with the Golden State Warriors.
Although the Thunder were still able to secure Russell Westbrook, it would certainly be hard for them to become a title contender next season by just relying on him. Adding a veteran point guard, who can sink in pressure shots, will be good for the team.
But then again, age is the issue for Fisher. Since the offseason began, the teams in the NBA have been filling their roster with younger and more athletic players. With this kind of environment, it would be very difficult for Fisher to keep up with the players half his age.
