Both the Wisconsin Badgers and Kentucky Wildcats will compete against each other at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Saturday for a chance to play for the NCAA national men's basketball championship. The Final Four match can be watched online via live stream - free for subscribers - below.
According to the Associated Press, No. 1 Kentucky still has its perfect winning record after being Notre Dame 68-66 Saturday night in the Midwest Regional final. This happened after Andrew Harrison managed to shoot two free throws with six seconds left on the clock.
"We didn't play very well and Notre Dame, I thought, controlled the whole thing, but we made the plays," Kentucky coach John Calipari said. "We figured out a way to win it. We're just saying one more game, play our best. We've had other tests, but we have a will to win."
The Associated Press reported that Notre Dame (32-6) came within seconds of pulling an upset over Kentucky. Based on that result, the Wildcats could be the first team to go undefeated since Indiana in 1976, provided that they win the next two games.
"Calipari insisted on Friday his team was not perfect, only unbeaten and that any team left in the tournament was capable of toppling the top Cats," AP wrote.
However, Matthew Giles of the Washington Post argued that No. 1 Wisconsin had the ability to put a dent into Kentucky's unbeaten season. That's because the Badgers have been identified as the "David" to Kentucky's "Goliath."
"Kentucky can't be beaten by one or two players - it is a collective effort," Giles wrote. "But just as Notre Dame expertly spaced the court and lifted the front court above the free throw line, and even three point line, Wisconsin's offense operates much the same."
If Wisconsin brings their best game forward against Kentucky, Giles argued that the team could plan to use "cuts, crisp ball movement, and penetration-kicks" to throw the Wildcats off balance. The Badgers will also need to lay out a strategy to stop Karl-Anthony Town, who played effectively against Notre Dame.
"Wisconsin ... will have a week to prep for how to double KAT and force him to pass out to the other Wildcats and let them make a play, an effective strategy for a team that isn't outstanding offensively," Giles wrote.
Giles argued that if recent history was any indicator, this game could be decided in the final seconds. He elaborated on the game strategy that could send the Wildcats home.
"Teams that invert their offense and off-set the Wildcats' help defense have the best chance to end UK's undefeated streak," Giles wrote. "Notre Dame almost made history, and Wisconsin could very well execute what Notre Dame could not."
