Fans of The X-Files are rejoicing! Fox is in talks that they are going to make another season of their alien drama. That wasn't in question, though, was it? The show certainly left viewers in limbo, with things that had to be taken care of! The biggest question is, "When?"

During a recent press call (via Deadline) the chairmen of the Fox TV Group, Dana Walden and Gary Newman, confirmed that they are working on things.  Walden said, "We have had conversations with (creator) Chris Carter and (stars) David Duchovny and Gillan Anderson. I believe everyone is on board to do another installment of the show."

Scheduling will definitely play a factor of when fans can expect to see their beloved Scully and Mulder back together. David Duchovny is currently starring in NBC's period crime drama Aquarius. Gillian Anderson is working on BBC's War & Peace and also a drama film shot in India called Viceroy's House.

With that in mind, Walden says that, "hopefully this season we will be able to get it done and that the same time next year (May), we will have something to announce."

Newman also added later information that discussions with Carter, Duchovny and Anderson have been including "what kind of episodic order makes sense. Some of that is driven by schedules," stated Newman. "Conversations are ongoing. I can tell you that all of them would like to do more of these, and certainly the network and studio want to do more."  They are looking tentatively at the 2017-2018 season.

The come-back season of X-Files did very well for Fox- its two-part premiere aired both Sunday and Monday, following the NFC championship game. 21.4 million viewers watched the first episode(including DVR playback and streaming), and it beat out its own "series finale" by twenty-four percent. On VOD, The X-Files was the 2nd most watched Fox program on VOD last season- right behind Empire. So it is with little doubt that a new season would happen as Carter had said at the TCA press tour that the studio would want more episodes if they had a big following.

For those who have forgotten about the series finale in February, we ended in a major cliffhanger after learning that Scully has alien DNA- given to her by The Cigarette Man.  "Old Smokey"(as I like to call him) tries to offer Mulder the alien DNA to save his life because the Smallpox vaccination is killing off the world. He refuses and leaves the place dying. Scully uses her DNA to come up with an antidote, but we don't know if she has gotten there in time. She's looking for their son William, also. The spaceship from the first episode that destroyed the poor girl in her car is back, and this time, it shines its beam on Scully and Mulder, and that's what we have to go on until sometime in 2017/2018.

Since fans patiently waited for 14 years, I suppose they will be able to hold for another year before finding out what happens to our heroes.
