Android 7.0 Nougat was launched just a few months ago, and naturally, it was released on Google’s very own range of devices first before other manufacturers begin to pick it up, slowly but surely. However, not all early adopters are able to rejoice with the appearance of Android 7.0 Nougat on their respective handsets -- the Nexus 6P is one such example. Unfortunately for Nexus 6P device owners, their experience with the Android 7.0 Nougat update has been far from satisfactory, and it has left a rather bitter feeling in their mouths.
So far, other devices that have picked up the Android 7.0 Nougat update have reportedly ran without experiencing any major glitches or issues, except for the Nexus 6P. Of course, not all Nexus 6P devices are subject to issues and problems, but a fair number of Nexus 6P owners have voiced out their frustrations on online forums and other channels -- big enough to be wary of jumping aboard the Nougat bandwagon when you have been riding on Marshmallow all this while.
There have been reports popping up that a bunch of Nexus 6P devices have began to experience random shut downs the moment Android 7.0 Nougat was successfully installed. It looks as though there is something about the latest operating system that affects the Nexus 6P’s battery -- and hence, causing this particular problem to crop up. It is certainly far from being an isolated issue, as it has spread far and wide, and Google’s Product Forum is certainly not exempt from threads that are full of users who have registered their complaints online concerning this niggling problem. It is definitely a serious problem for sure, as no one would like to use a smartphone that will shut down by itself without any particular warning or reason.
In those threads on Google’s Product Forum, there are more than 240 affected Nexus 6P devices -- and who knows, how many more out there that have not yet gone online to vent their anger and frustrations. Some of the Nexus 6P device owners have decided to go the extra mile in order to flash the Android version on their handset back to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It is rather unfortunate that this particular solution, which would normally be able to solve such issues, failed to work its magic this time around as the Android 6.0 Marshmallow-powered Nexus 6P continued to exhibit similar characteristics by powering off by itself.
So far, the guaranteed solution to this problem is to perform a total battery replacement. This is not as simple as it sounds, since not everyone has the right amount of spare dough in their pockets to pick up a new battery, and even then, this is not through any fault of their own, but rather Google’s who released an operating system update that crashes the device.
One interesting point of note -- many of the affected Nexus 6P owners happen to live in climates that are colder than normal, but perhaps that is just a coincidence since other devices do not experience this issue, and even then, this issue cropped up only after the installation of Android 7.0 Nougat.
Hopefully Google will roll out an OTA (over the air) software fix for this problem sooner rather than later.
