NFL Rumors: Jimmy Garoppolo’s Shoulder Injury Forcing Patriots To Trade for Cam Newton

Despite landing a huge victory on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, the New England Patriots have been placed in a very tight spot following quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo's injury. With the Patriots running out of QB options, the team could look into bringing in an outsider such as Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers.

During the weekend, the Patriots pulled an impressive win over the Dolphins after closing the match with a score of 31-24. The team's celebrations, however, were cut short after learning about Garoppolo's injury.

Garoppolo injured his throwing shoulder after the first half of the game. Before being taken out of the field, he was able to complete 18 out of 27 passes for 234 yards. His backup, Jacoby Brisset stepped in for him to finish the game while wide receiver Julian Edelman was placed as the temporary emergency quarterback.

The incident on Sunday showed just how shallow the Patriots' current quarterback bench is especially since Tom Brady is still serving his four-game suspension due to his involvement in the Deflategate scandal.

With Garoppolo's current condition, it's uncertain how long Brisset and Edelman will be able to hold out until Brady returns.

However, even if Brady gets cleared to play, there's no way of telling if he will still be an effective quarterback for the Patriots. Now that he's nearing 40 years old, there's a good chance that he might already be out of football shape.

For this reason, the Patriots could bring in a veteran quarterback who has a lot of experience playing the starter position. Although there are a lot of candidates, one of the most notable ones is Newton, who just came from an impressive victory against the San Francisco 49ers.

In that game, Newton threw four touchdown passes which gave Carolina a 46-27 win over San Francisco.

Trading for Newton, which would probably cost the Patriots a backup quarterback and future draft picks, would give New England the necessary edge it needs to strengthen its QB bench. They could then keep Brisset and Garoppolo, depending on his recovery, on the lineup as Newton's backups.

But, even though this may sound like a good deal for the Patriots, Carolina will most likely think twice before letting go of Newton especially now that he has shown what he can do on the field.
