It seems running back Trent Richardson has just been given a second chance to revive his professional NFL career after signing a contract with the Baltimore Ravens. With what can be described as a new lease on life, Richardson said that he will do everything he can to improve his performance and discipline.

The signing between Richardson and the Ravens was first reported by NFL.com. According to the site, prior to the contract signing, the two parties already had an unofficial agreement. As part of the deal, the Ravens will push through in making the agreement official if the 25-year-old player will be able to shed off a few pounds and be in football-standards shape.

Fortunately for Richardson, he was able to accomplish both on Monday which then led to the Ravens honoring the deal.

"I can't wait," Richardson said about the deal according to NFL.com "I feel like I did when I left home from high school to go to college. To me, it's about earning an opportunity that they gave him. I'm in a position to earn a spot on the team, a chance to actually be that guy."

"I know there's going to be a lot of competition," he added. "I know there's going to be a lot of fighting among ourselves, but we're all out there for the same thing. We all want to try and get better, we all want to be that guy. But at the same time, I'm coming in and I'm ready to work."

Hopefully, Richardson will not lose his focus this season like what happened to him in the previous years. Prior to joining the Ravens, he became part of the Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts and Oakland Raiders, ESPN reported.

However, he did not last long with any of these teams due to his lack of discipline, which led to him gaining weight and compromising his performance on the field.

The other NFL franchises are quite aware of this. This is why after Ravens head coach John Harbaugh revealed during the NFL Annual Meeting that Baltimore had an unofficial agreement with Richardson, no other team tried to swoop in to sign the athlete.
