CCCOWE released a statement saying the third “World Chinese Base-level Gospel Conference”, held once every four years, has concluded successfully. It was held in Hong Kong from Sept. 29 to Oct. 3. Coming from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Taiwan, and North America, the speakers shared messages to around 720 church ministers and belivers, who came from 17 different countries and regions.

Before the event took place, typhoon swept through Hong Kong. It was feared that the conference may be delayed, but it proceeded as scheduled without hindrance.

Reflecting CCCOWE's mission statement, this year's theme is Netweaving, Servicing, Creativity; Igniting, Sending, and Uniting. The first three items are reflecting "Chinese Churches Under One Accord”; the last three items are reflecting “World Evangelism till the Lord Returns" - it is very creative.

In the opening address, Rev. Morley Lee, secretary general of CCCOWE, expressed the importance of “weaving the net before casting the net”: It is important for base-level evangelism teams to network with each other and build sturdy network.

As keynote speakers, Rev. Lung Kwong Lo from Hong Kong, Rev. Chung-Chien Shia (James) from Taiwan, and minister Esther Lou, director of Chinese Christian Herald Crusade restaurant ministry from the United States, etc., challenged the participants to minister to base-level people in the society.

While most churches today place their emphasis towards people in the middle-class and white collars, they neglect the drug-users, drug addicts, illegal immigrant workers working in harsh conditions, kids on the street forced to commit crimes, prostitutes, immigrants who don’t have the source of help, peasant workers from China, etc,.

To discuss about strategies to conduct base-level evangelism, the speakers and participants separated into groups and explored how they can solidify the discussions into practice.

The next “World Chinese Base-level Gospel Conference" is scheduled to be held in Penang, Malaysia from Oct. 1 to Oct. 5, 2012.
