Golfing icon Tiger Woods has seen an abrupt rise to his superstardom in the sport, only to come back crashing down to earth with news of his infidelity breaking out, not to mention changing his swing from time to time that has seen his impressive golf machinery come to a grinding halt. At his peak, no one could come near him at all, where he seemed to be all but destined to overtake Jack Nicklaus’ all time record of 18 Major wins. However, Woods has since stopped at 14 Major wins, with the last of it being the 2008 US Masters Open. It is coming close to a decade now, and ever since Woods’ world came crashing down in a car accident, resulting in him revealing his infidelity and losing millions of dollars in sponsorship money, he has never been the same golfer. Not only that, to go through surgery after surgery to correct past injuries have also contributed to his decline, but the Woods that everyone knew when he was a hot rod proved to be a fighter, and we can see a glimpse of this fighting spirit yet again when he declared that he would like to play professional golf again after his fourth back surgery.

Woods underwent fusion surgery just last month, and shared on his website, “I haven’t felt this good in years. I want to say unequivocally, I want to play professional golf again. It has been just over a month since I underwent fusion surgery on my back, and it is hard to express how much better I feel. It was instant nerve relief. It's just a matter of not screwing up and letting it fuse. I'm walking and doing my exercises, and taking my kids to and from school. All I can do is take it day by day. There's no hurry. Presently, I'm not looking ahead. I can't twist for another two and a half to three months. Right now, my sole focus is rehab and doing what the doctors tell me. I am concentrating on short-term goals.”

The 41-year old has not entered any kind of competitive golf since the first round of the Dubai Desert Classic in February, where he performed poorly while having a proverbial rain cloud follow him wherever he went. Back then, he pinpointed back spasms as the main reason for excusing himself from the event right after the first day of the tournament. Of course, the road to recovery can be a long and arduous journey, and this means that Woods is unable to do the twist or make a swing for at least three months, but he is certainly pleased as punch, having gone through the most recent procedure. The operation has certainly proven itself to be a success, and it should not be too difficult for him to follow doctor’s orders as he journeys down the path of rehabilitation in order to claw his way back to the top of the world rankings in golf.

At the moment, the former world No. 1 continues to chase Sam Snead’s all time record of 82 tour victories, being in second place at the moment. Other players who have undergone similar surgeries and worked their way back into the game have inspired Woods to do the same, and he has fixed his eyes on the likes of Davis Love III, Retief Goosen, Lee Trevino, Lanny Wadkins, and Dudley Hart. It would truly be a mini miracle of sorts if Tiger Woods were to make a successful return not only to the sport alone, but also to be the world no. 1 in golf, having seen his position slide to a lowly 860 at present time.
