Bethesda is now gearing up to release the highly-anticipated Quake Champions shooter game. As part of QuakeCon's opening ceremony, the publisher released a brand new trailer for the game that promises the battles will be fast-paced and action-packed. Now, here's what is currently known about Quake Champions release date, characters and rumors on the web.
The latest gameplay trailer starts by showcasing some of the game's new, improved maps. Three of the maps that are featured look like modern upgrades of the factory, castle and sewer from the 1999's Quake III Arena.
Furthermore, the trailer shows the new assault rifles, shotguns, rocket launchers and lightning guns. It also reveals there will be booster-jump pads in the upcoming multiplayer shooter game.
In terms of graphic design, expect well-decorated arenas in Quake Champions. In the 0:40-mark of the trailer, there's a chained eyeball in the arena, and it is well-rendered and smothered in cool lightning effects.
Bethesda claims Quake Champions runs at 120Hz with unlocked framerates. Creators of the game say console versions will become available after the release of PC version. They are also working to make the game playable on a wide range of computer specs.
Studio director Tim Willits told in Polygon that there will be no limits to the amounts of guns that players can carry. In addition, all characters will have the ability to pick any weapons from the arena.
As for the Quake's new characters, expect to see Ranger, Visor, Nyx and Scale Bearer.
Longtime Quake fans will definitely recognize Ranger. He is of the characters in the very first Quake. His ability called "Dire Orb" allows him to teleport from various points of the map.
Visor will also return in the game. He first appeared in the Quake 3: Arena. His ability "Piercing Sight" allows him to see enemies through walls.
Nyx and Scale Bearer are two of the new characters in the game. Nyx has lightning-fast speed and can become temporarily invincible. On the other hand, Scale Bearer is the largest character so far. He can destroy enemies by using his "Bull Rush" ability.
Bethesda said that a Quake Champions beta will become available in 2017, probably in the first quarter of the year. For those who want to try the game now, the publisher announced the first gameplay demo will be conducted on Saturday at Quakecon.
We'll keep you posted for more update.
