Raise Up Your Hands to Pray for Canada

By Luke Leung

If a man feels that he is a woman and walks into a woman washroom or the woman shower/change room in a public facility, this is his gender expression. Any one stops him from doing so can be prosecuted for violating the criminal code.

Will Canada become this kind of nation-state?

The aforementioned Bill C-389 passed the 2nd Reading after its introduction in March of early this year. Then, the Justice Committee concluded in minutes by a 9-2 vote, and now is back in the House of Commons. Third Reading can come as early as the first week of December.

Karen Chan, coordinator of Prayer Network for Nation's Revival, issued a prayer letter, urging Christians to pray for all tiers of the Canadian government, the respective members of parliaments, and the bills that will be discussed and instituted. The above bill is only one of the examples.

Below is the content of the prayer requests:

For the Federal Government

1. Pray for all members of parliament

Pray that they will be men and women of integrity and have the courage to stand up for what is right. Pray that God will add more to the number of upright MPs. Pray that God will take away the spirit of fear and give them the spirit of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (II Timothy 1:7)

2. Pray for the Prime Minister and his Caucus

Pray for wise and Godly counselors to help them reach their full potential. (Proverbs 11:14) Pray for them a character of humility and for God’s protection from pride so that God’s great grace will flow through them over the whole nation. (James 4:6)

3. Pray for bills and policies

• Bill C-389 adding “Gender Identity” and “Gender Expression” into the criminal code of Canadian Human Rights Act

NDP MP Bill Siksay of Burnaby-Douglas in BC has for many years tirelessly pushed forward this bill but was unsuccessful. In March, this bill was once again introduced in the House of Commons. Shockingly, it passed the 2nd Reading, sailed through the Justice Committee in minutes by a 9-2 vote, and now is back in the House of Commons. Third Reading can come as early as the first week of December. This bill adds “Gender Identity” and “Gender Expression” to the identifiable group as section of the public distinguished by color, race, etc. to be “protected from discrimination”. In other words, if a man feels that he is a woman and walks into a woman washroom or the woman shower/change room in a public facility, this is his gender expression. Any one stops him from doing so can be prosecuted for violating the criminal code. The same situation applies if a woman feels that she is a man and wants to use the man’s washroom or shower. Needless to explain, this bill poses a serious danger to our society!

According to an update from REAL Women, Justice Minister Rob Nicholson advised the organization that “he would be recommending to his caucus colleagues that Bill C-389 not be supported”. This is a private bill and parties would normally allow their members free votes. Even if all Conservatives voted against this bill, will it be enough to stop it from passing the 3rd reading? Consider what the Lord has done in the past years during many critical moments, nothing we are confronted with today is too hard for Him. When God’s children faithful stand in the gap and intercede for the nation, God’s mighty hand would just intervene and turn the situation around. So let us pray with faith and with this sense of urgency. Ask the Lord to stop the scheme of the Evil One. At the same time, please send letters to your Members of Parliament with copies to Right Honorable Stephen Harper and Honorable Rob Nicholson. Send it postage free in separate envelopes to House of Commons, Ottawa, Ontario. K1A 0A6

• Christian universities alleged to be "violating the commitment to academic freedom"

For requiring their employees to commit to the statement of faith, Trinity Western University (TWU) and Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) have been challenged by Canadian Association of University Teachers Council(CAUT). According to its report of investigation into academic freedom at Canadian Mennonite University, “CAUT will consider all cases of alleged violations of academic freedom involving a required commitment to a particular ideology or statement of faith as a condition of employment”. We should not be surprised that more universities across the land will be targeted. Please pray for protection of all Christian universities that they will have the freedom to educate young people to become godly professionals serving the Lord in different fields. Pray for TWU and CMU . Ask the Lord to bless them financially as TWU has taken on significant legal costs to address this concern to resolve the issue with CAUT.

• Stand up for Freedom Campaign

A dark force in the spiritual realm is suppressing freedom of speech, freedom of conscience and freedom of religion in the guise of human rights. Many Christian organizations, clergymen, Christian professionals and laymen have become victims. These very basic freedoms were earned in exchange of supreme sacrifice paid by many. A grassroots campaign called Stand Up for Freedom has been launched on November 9. Pray for the movement and visit http://www.humanrightscommissions.ca/ for information and actions.

• Bill C-510 Roxanne Law to protect pregnant women and unborn babies

This bill introduced by Manitoba Conservative MP Rod Bruinooge if passes will make it criminal to coerce a woman to have an unwanted abortion. The bill was debated on November 1st and will be debated a second time on December 15 before a vote in 2nd reading which is believed to be in February 2011. Please pray for the passing of the bill. Ask the Lord to have mercy on the 100,000 young lives taken away in Canada every year by abortion. Petition can be downloaded from http://www.roxanneslaw.ca/RoxannePetition.pdf

Pray for the BC Government

BC politics has not been stable for the past year. Premier Gordon Campbell recently resigned. Pray for the election of a new leader/premier. Pray that the Lord will choose an upright and capable person for this important position. Many hope for a few seats taken by the rising of a third party. We need to ask for the Lord’s mercy that we will have more people of integrity rule in the Legislative Assembly.

Pray for the municipal governments of Vancouver & Richmond

I believe these two cities to be strategic points of the spiritual warfare. Pray for godly persons to be elected for these cities in the next municipal elections.
