Hong Kong – This year’s Lunar New Year fell on Valentine’s Day, which is February 14, so the night markets throughout the city were filled with flowers and gifts made for Valentine’s Day. Some churches have setup booths there in order to share the message of God’s love through praise songs, which was like spring water in loud and busy market place.
At the Flower Market located at the northern part of Mongkok, Gospel Herald reporter found the only booth that is from a church, setup by Kowloon Tong Christian Alliance Church. On their booth's pink-colored banners showed a heart-shape picture titled “True Love True Friendship” and a quote from 1 John 4:19, “We Love because he first loved us.” Seen from far away, the booth looked like just another Valentine's Day accessories' booth.
While playing violin and guitar, the Christians sang praise songs in Cantonese, and many of the songs were related to the topic of love, such as the popular “Love is Not Holding Back”, etc. In addition, a girl was writing “chunlian” for the by-passers, while others held up chopsticks and pens with scripture engravings. Many people stopped to look at the small gospel decorations and greeting cards.
Today is the last night of the Year of the Ox; the last day of all of Hong Kong’s New Year’s flower night market. In Victoria Park at Causeway Bay, many churches and ministries have also setup booths, spreading the message of God’s true love to the people in Hong Kong during this special occassion of Lunar New Year meeting Valentine’s Day.
