Christmas is around the corner for ‘Star Wars’ fans as Disney announced that the ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ tickets will be made available starting November 28, Monday.
Known as both a ‘Star Wars’ spinoff and prequel, the Gareth Edwards-helmed movie puts the spotlight on a group of rebels planning to steal the plans for the Death Star, which is recognized as the Empire’s “ultimate weapon of destruction.” The story takes place in a period between 'Star Wars: Episode III—Revenge of the Sith' and the first film, 'Star Wars: Episode IV—A New Hope.'
The official ‘Star Wars’ account posted the news about the advance ticket sales on Friday, stating: "Lord Vader, we've been expecting you."
Disney recently released the final ‘Rogue One’ trailer, titled ‘Trust,’ which shows clips from the latest international trailer along with a number of new scenes that draws attention to the human-sized droid K-S20, voiced by Alan Tudyk.
Brought into the story as an Imperial security droid, K-S20 was reprogrammed to take part in the Rebel Alliance as he is known for his ability to assimilate himself and blend in at Imperial outposts.
The trailer shows how the droid can get as forceful as he can, killing off a group of Stormtroopers with only one blast.
"I'll be there for you. The captain said I had to," he tells lead character Jyn, played by Felicity Jones, referring to Captain Andor as played by Diego Luna.
Meanwhile, Dani di Placido of Forbes recently took into account the ships that were originally used in the original ‘Star Wars’ trilogy, describing them as “truly massive.” Such sense of scale was then compared to that of ‘Rogue One,’ particularly the new movie’s use of ships and the Death Star itself that was described as “very intimidating.”
“This sense of scale was something that was missing from ‘The Force Awakens’ and their Starkiller Base. It was supposed to be the Death Star on steroids, but it certainly didn’t feel that way,” di Placido commented, comparing the last film with the upcoming standalone movie.
Moreover, the idea of nostalgia was also taken into consideration; while ‘The Force Awakens’ brings futuristic concepts into light, it was highly modernized and did not entirely capture the classic ‘Star Wars’ essence. On the other hand, ‘Rogue One’ seemingly bear a greater resemblance to the past movies.
“’Rogue One,’ with its chipped paint, rusty metal and muted color palette, resembles the original trilogy more than a sequel ever could,” the contributor noted.
On the whole, Disney’s work on the newest ‘Star Wars’ film is deemed to have effectively caused nostalgia despite looking at the storyline from another point of view.
The ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ release date is set on December 16. Aside from Jones, Tudyk and Luna, other cast members include Mads Mikkelsen, Forest Whitaker, Donnie Yen, Genevieve O’ Reilly and Ben Mendelsohn, among others.
