It would not be amiss to say that smartphone manufacturers like Samsung already have a prototype of at least one or two generation devices ahead of their existing flagship at any time. After all, they need to remain ahead of the game and their competition in order to maintain an edge and succeed with each subsequent release. Samsung's existing flagship range comprise of the Samsung Galaxy Fold, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10, and the Samsung Galaxy S10 families. The Samsung Galaxy S10 collection sports a trio of handsets: the Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10 Plus, and Galaxy S10e.
The Galaxy S10e has always been seen to be the budget version of the flagship range back when the Galaxy S10 was launched, offering a decent degree of performance without all the bells and whistles of its larger sized siblings. Well, what if Samsung saw that there actually is a market wedged in between the mid-range and flagship segments? Perhaps a Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite would do the trick, or as whispers have it at the moment, a Galaxy S11 Lite?
It would make more sense for a leaked model to be part of the next generation of Samsung flagship devices, as the Galaxy S10 boat has already sailed more than half a year ago. A reputable leaker claimed that Samsung is currently working on releasing what is possibly the Samsung Galaxy S11 Lite. An unknown device with the model number SM-G770F has been benchmarked, making this the most likely candidate for the successor to the Galaxy S10e.
First spotted on Geekbench 5 by SamMobile, the SM-G770F will be powered by a Snapdragon 855 chipset from Qualcomm and is mated to 8GB of RAM. This would be a similar chipset as used in the Galaxy S10 devices that are sold in the US, while carrying more RAM than the Samsung Galaxy S10e (which incidentally has 6GB of RAM in certain markets).
The leaked benchmark also points to the device running on Google's latest Android 10 operating system, where it manages to pick up a single-core score of 742 alongside a multi-core one of 2,604. These are above average figures, as the results would place it well within reach of the Galaxy S10 range and not out of place should it be positioned as part of the Galaxy Note 10 family.
The question remains as to whether the SM-G770F will be released (if it is headed down that path) as the Galaxy S10 Lite or as the Galaxy S11 Lite. Of course, this could just be a red herring, and eventually it might end up the icon for a different product range, as only time will be able to reveal more accurate information.
It is widely expected for the next generation Samsung Galaxy S11 to run on the Snapdragon 865 chipset, but then again, the performance increase between the Snapdragon 855 and its successor would not be too huge a quantum leap. Chances are we'll see the big picture not too far in the future. If you want a solid and dependable flagship smartphone without breaking the bank, the Galaxy S10e is a surefire bet from Samsung.
