In response to the Supreme Court's ruling in favor of Hobby Lobby, Scarlett Johansson has helped to design a pro-abortion t-shirt for Planned Parenthood. The actress is the first celebrity to design a shirt for their "Women are Watching" campaign, which aims to thwart conservative success in the upcoming midterm elections. "I'm proud to support Planned Parenthood Action Fund's Women are Watching campaign to ensure that young women know the high stakes for women's health and rights this November," Johansson said - "We will fight for candidates who will ensure that birth control is affordable and who will protect access to safe and legal abortion."
"Avengers" actress Scarlett Johansson has shown much support for abortion. Life Site News reports that Johansson has appeared in campaign advertisements for Planned Parenthood in the past, and that she even spoke in advocacy of abortion at the Democratic National Convention. Ironically, the engaged actress is currently pregnant.
Johansson designed a pink t-shirt to help raise money to support Planned Parenthood's "Women are Watching" campaign, which encourages youth to be more aware of women's health issues. The shirts feature a cartoon caricature which says "Hey Politicians! The 1950s called..." on the front, and "They want their sexism back!" on the reverse.
When Johansson heard about the Supreme Court ruling in favor of Hobby Lobby's right to refuse to provide abortive measures for their employees, she was shocked - "I thought I had woken up in another decade ... I was appalled by the thought of men taking away women's ability to make our own personal health care decisions," she says. Women are still able to get birth control, however - whether or not they work for an organization with strong Christian beliefs. They just can't get it for free from their employer.
